If they met in chambers to reset the scheduling conference, it's because they have an agreement of some sort. If nothing was worked out they would've gone on the record in open court.

I agree, it's not the public's responsibility to ensure bad actors say bad words on a zoom call. There are tools to easily prevent that sort of disruption. These hearings should be public so that there can be no suspicion of malfeasance from either party.

I can understand the proceedings being conducted behind closed doors, especially if the plea negotiations involves the child endangerment. Things like the CPS reports on the children, names of children, etc would be kept confidential to protect the children.
If Nick is trying to have the neglect dismissed, things like positive reports from CPS investigations and CPS returning custody of the children would certainly be something his atty would use in plea negotiations.
