I got an article in my recommendations today about a petition against Hogwarts Legacy 2 recieving over 10,000 signatures.

At first I was like, "Ah, shit, here we go again..."

But then I read the article and not only was the petition NOT a load of histrionic men in dresses screaming about how J.K. Rowling contributes to trans genocide - it was actually about WB Games wanting to make Hogwarts Legacy 2 an online service game - but there was literally no mention whatsoever of how J.K. Rowling's apparently controversial views on tranny shit at all.

I mean, video games aren't - I still remember WB Games pulling that money grubbing live service Jewry with Shadow Of Mordor 2 a literal decade ago now, and ruining that game and all the audience good will for the first one as a result, so clearly they've learned nothing.

Personally, I really hope that the petition succeeds (although I suspect it probably won't), because after the gigantic trans L that was the first Hogwarts Legacy game, I'd hate to see the troon platoon accidentally handed a very small, accidental W by corpo scumfuckery. I don't want to have to put up with the likes of Jim Sterling smugly crowing about how ackshually Hogwarts Legacy was never good, ackshually, and also J.K. It makes sense for them to make Hogwarts legacy an online grindfest full of microtransactions, simply because that business models has been proven to work much better than the traditional model. It sucks, but I think it is more about human psychology than corporate scumfuckery.

Like you I was overjoyed by the response to the last game, and I bought it for both of my oldest kids on the basic principle of "if troons don't want it, then it is probably a good thing".

I may be daring to dream, but dare I do. And it was just when the game came out a few years back that normie streamers were getting death threats for playing it—I wonder how many of them got peaked versus continuing to take the abuse? I know it got pretty ugly. I don’t support streaming as a career choice or even valid hobby tbh, but playing wizard game is not something women in particular deserved to lose their established platforms and feelings of safety over. Perhaps just selection bias since I only heard about things second- or third-hand but seemed to be only or majority female streamers that got targeted.

I hope Rowling makes another billion dollars off HP and makes twenty more female-only DV shelters, plus throws some shekels to Reduxx and someone like Sall Grover (of the Giggle app) if she hasn’t already. They would make excellent use of funding!
