The Governor of California for most of the 60s was Pat Brown, who was Jerry Brown's father, and like Jerry was a democrat.

IIRC, in 2020 it became a formality rather than a real administrative practice. Either way, if it wasn't clear on election night it should be clear now from all the finger pointing (and apparently day drinking from Kamala's latest public disaster) that Kamala lacks the support or power to really try anything.

Guess what, you creepy fuck: that's right! Trump is innocent. You lose. Good day, sir.
