US Boxcutter-wielding trans man's eerie last three words as he's shot dead by cops

A transgender man's haunting final words have been revealed after he was shot dead by cops as he allegedly advanced towards them with a box cutter.

Santa Fe cops told Grace Coon, 33, that they were going to help him just seconds before shooting him dead.

'I believe you,' Coons said as he took a step forward and was killed by police after his wife called 911 to report he was having a mental health crisis and armed with a boxcutter.

The shooting unfolded within a minute of police arriving at the home on September 22, as reported by the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The bodycam footage begins with officers David Gallegos and Charles Ovalle at the front door with guns drawn, yelling: 'Santa Fe police - step out of the house now.'

Coon is then seen emerging from the front door with both hands up, and each hand holding an object.

After Coon claims they have nothing on them, one officer replies: 'You have a box cutter - drop it.'

The cops then back into the yard as the continue to instruct Coons to 'drop the weapon.'

'I’ve got nothing,' Coon says. 'I don’t want to live.'

The officers then tell Coon they're going to help him out.

'I believe you,' Coon replies as he takes a step forward.

That's when one of the officers - apparently Gallegos - fires three shots, causing Coon to collapse.

After the shooting Coon's wife Lilly Gordon opens the front door and asks police, 'what just happened?'

The officers order her to go back inside and wait there.

Some time later Coon's wife is seen crying during a police interview in the couple's garage.

Coon's attorney Brian Egolf has filed has submitted legal notices to Santa Fe and the county dispatch center.

Police documents refer to Coons as Stephanie, noting they identified as a male but had not legally changed his name and gender.

Coon's lawyer is referring to him as a male, though a friend claimed they preferred gender-neutral pronouns.

Egolf says that Coon's wife called authorities for a welfare check and insisted on the call that he was not dangerous.

'Upon the SFPD’s arrival there were no de-escalation tactics employed towards Mr. Coon before an SFPD officer fired his service weapon at Mr. Coon, killing him,” the notice says

'Ms. Gordon was ordered to stay inside her house and watched Mr. Coon, her husband, die before her.'

Santa Fe police, on their part, have said Coon was reported to be violent and armed with a box cutter. They also claim Coon 'was making threats to kill the victim in the residence.'

Gallegos reportedly claimed to a commanding officer after the shooting that Coon was armed with 'a box cutter and a gun.'

Ovalle, meanwhile, said Coon 'had a knife in his hand, and I found out after that he also had a gun.'

New Mexico state police told the Santa Fe New Mexican that they intend to send the case to the District Attorney’s Office next week.

Santa Fe police, on its part, said an internal investigation would begin after the state probe 'to determine compliance with department policies and procedures.'

I have a me test for police shooting incidents as in How would I react as a cop in this situation? While not a cop, I was a soldier. Without getting specific, I do have tactical training and real-life experience.

I would've also shot the pooner as she ignored commands and stepped forward while reportedly armed with both boxcutter and gun, a weapon in each hand. Even if she only had the boxcutter, she would've been able to close the distance to me, my partner, or the girlfriend in a few seconds. If reports of the gun are confirmed, I would've mag-dumped that suicidal menace the moment she denied she was holding it--not because I like killing people but because non-lethal alternatives such as tasers and beanbag rounds are unreliable.

I've heard people talk about shooting people in the arm or leg or what have you, somewhere on the body supposedly non-lethal. Those who say this kind of stupid shit have clearly never been in a fight for their lives.

Train suicides are the worst. Always super public with loads of people, loads of gore; and you make some poor bastard an unwilling actor and front row observer to you getting blown apart into a wave of chunky salsa. Real scummy thing to do.
I was talking to a trains driver once and he basically said that anyone who couldn't handle that moved on out to some other line of work (it's uncommon but often enough) and most everyone else knows to hit the brakes, horn and lay down (as is standard for anything on the tracks, you don't want a body/other items to come through the window).

Trains is hard work, but never rape.

If you're going to be a pussy faggot and kill yourself, don't ever involve other people in it. Fucking disgusting cowardly behavior.

I remember around 10 years ago or so there was teenage pooner who killed herself by jumping in front of a truck on the highway. It was a big news story at the time. I never felt bad for the dumb pooner, I felt bad for the poor innocent truck driver who's gonna have to deal with that for the rest of his life. Fuck, it still makes me mad.
I had a neighbor who's brother jumped off an overpass into a semi. The poor dude quit driving truck, gave all his money to the family for the, obviously, closed casket. Just eat a bullet or OD. People are so fucking selfish.

Thing is someone still has to clean you up and deal with the mess left behind. Maybe just disappear into the wilderness after leaving a note, I guess? That’s still traumatizing but at least the wildlife can clean up after you.

We saw what happened when a cop waited too long with that knife wielding sheboon a while back. Don't run up to cops with a weapon if you want to live and don't call the cops on your significant other if you want them to live. Most cops aren't gonna know how to wrangle your resident tard any better than you do so they make use of the tools they got. You might insist they're not dangerous and that might be true FOR YOU, as many people are hesitant to hurt people they know but you never know how someone's gonna react when a bunch of strangers with guns show up.

I dunno, man. If someone's flipping out enough to warrant calling the cops on them, and has two weapons, I don't think they just wanted to say hello to Officer Jones.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, though, because you can recognize someone is not normally a danger to themselves or others, but they are at that particular moment. Some people are in denial that their loved one is about to get ventilated, though.

Statistically cops tend to shoot men with knives while they often try to disarm women, but in this case they validated this heckin' dood by mag dumping her.

She's a real human boy, and a real anhero.

Give a mentally ill woman testosterone injections and feed her delusions. What can go wrong?
'Ms. Gordon was ordered to stay inside her house and watched Mr. Coon, her husband, die before her.'
Guess she shouldn't have called the cops on her beloved boxcutter-wielding pooner in that case. Surely the pooner had a psychiatrist or doctor who could have been called, or a suicide hotline or something.
