Its a long shot but maybe someone remembers it.

There was a youtube series of some guy playing through heavily modded, or augmented, half life 2. It started normal but he started adding more and more stuff to the campaign. Last episode that I remember was right under citadel wall, with him being cornered, and pulling the strider main gun to defend. I also remember a weird combine fixation with NOT killing the birds.

Anyone?
Was it Beserkoid?

I don't know if I buy that heavily into all the SBI stuff when it comes to Valve, not to say that they are above it. Having played Alyx and Deadlock they don't play into that crap at all really. At the end of the day I think Valve just want to make games.

I prefer to be optimistic about it all. Enough pessimism regarding this series anyways.
Half life will probably remain a tech demo showcase for whenever valve decides to make another game. I hope they make a next gen Half Life FPS that runs well on the steam deck as the next entry to the series after they finished Alyx and moved on to selling Handheld PC's. The Industry seems to have forgotten how to make those.

Steam is pretty woke and shows cal arts propaganda in their sales all the time. Its also in their own marketing where they make sure demographics of people who usually don't play video games are front and center. Does it really surprise you that they were woke for a while now? Steam has been a massive DRM curse that allowed Valve to become complacent. Its understandable that given how insane the steam userbase generally is that they would be paranoid of pissing them off should they get a pipebomb in the mail or something crazy as they constantly elude to whenever talking about half life development. However eventually they have to get over that shit because the whole purpose of steam besides making money, was to allow them the financial freedom to set their own deadlines and work on whatever they wanted to according to their careers page. Which was basically nothing after CSGO and Alyx being a miracle done by new people. Gabe is too busy shark diving in south africa to care about vidya these days according to his HL2 20th anniversary interview and most of the rest of the team have retired playing the long game waiting out the clock instead of potentially receiving the kind of backlash bioware did with Mass Effect 3.

So you have a culture of socialite yuppies who produce nothing as that's part of the perks at working at valve. Deciding to develop and drop projects whenever you want to. Who are more concerned if a tree falls down somewhere and yells "NIGGER" more than anything else running the show. Who will at best make a shitty drama confessional episode once in a while under the guise of a development vidoc. With the fanbase still wondering why a conclusion to the series that singlehandedly put steam on the map hasn't materialized even 20 years later. At least they turned base half life 2 into the orange box minus Portal and TF2 for its 20th anniversary. We also got to see the elusive "get your free TV's demo" and the anniversary site has a funny gravity gun feature and the "pick up the can" joke at the bottom of the page.

I remember reading on forums people saying the same thing about George Lucas, that Star wars was something he did for money so he had the freedom to work on his little indie films and then just never did the little stuff after Star wars.

In his case I think it was because of the excessive backlash over Episode 1 and 2. Can't blame him for being fed up with it and already cashed out to live out his days. But he also had an expanded universe he let third parties work with that he often tard wrangled. So we didn't have anything nearly as bad as the disney stuff that came after. He didn't stop at Episode 2 and never show the clone wars or rise of Darth Vader. He committed to seeing the story come full circle onto luke's story and culminating in Anakin bringing balance to the force retroactively.

GabeN or anyone from Valve really didn't do any tard wrangling of the franchise after they let the fans have it. Its how we got Hunt down the freeman and the constant autistic edits of Black Mesa outright omitting chapters that were in the 1.0 release and original Half Life.

What did they cut? Other than the rail section puzzle.
too much to post at once, I'll give the ones off the top of my head that irk me the most. Be prepared for a "stuff nobody cares about" post

Overall
Too many HL2 assets I feel, the quality difference between Xen and Earthbound is... off-putting to say the least

Unforeseen Consequences
In HL1 there was a dead guard that a scientist could revive

On A Rail
Whopping 7 out of 10 maps cut plus overdone streamlining of the maps they included. Say what you will about it in HL1 but it was clear that it was meant to be one of bookend large-scale chapters for act 2. that concept is lost now.

Residue Processing
there are a lot of headcrabs missing from the ground floor sections of the conveyor belt rooms.

Surface Tension
They cut the tentacles section

Xen, Interloper & Nihilanth
A lot of cut maps from HL1, Alien Grunts and Vorts are way WAY too underutilized in the Xen chapters. Nihilanth fight was redone completely and removed the teleporter sections

Overall its not really that bad, the good news is a lot of these are fixable by mods, and I've been getting in to hammer to hopefully fix/remake some of the missing Xen maps.

Including removing the "on a rail" chapter, they also keep changing entire parts of other chapters that outright were not in the original game. So it stops being a faithful remake and veering into fanfiction territory. This was NOT the final update and they've likely changed even more in the 5 or so updates since.

This is why I actually prefer the 2012 mod version tbh. It feels way closer to a valve product as opposed to a CC product. Mot that it makes retail BM bad, 2012 just has more of that valve DNA.

Its not a bad game in its own right. I just wish they would leave it alone. 1.0. Its finally finished in valve time and playable start to finish without game breaking bugs. Fix some bugs or add new DLC and move on. Which they largely seem to have done lately hyping up their version of Blue Shift on the steam workshop. Here's to hoping they move on from the shortest half life entry and onto Opposing Force being included in Black Mesa before 2030.

I would love OP4 but it's not feasible right now. Decay, co-op or singleplayer is the next best step because it wouldn't require new code. That's why OP4 isn't possible. CC sold/gave the source code for BM to Valve and we all know how they can be with those sort of things. Unless CC themselves said "yeah lets do it" which even then Valve might not let them. I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Not gonna lie though I would really like to see my dream of BM having all 4 games + Boot Camp, Further Data, and Hazard Course all accessible from the main menu in one EXE come to fruition.

Well we got that with base Half life 2 after 20 years. They include Episode 1 and 2 for FREE now alongside base HL2.
Im also optimistic for BM being a complete package of all the HL1 games remade all in one package some day. Its better than valve's resounding nothing.

Though I was more hoping for a next gen Sven Coop except with balanced enemy health pools that scale to the number of players in the lobby so you dont have stupidly OP and tanky Gonomes ruining it for new players.

They look like they would be amazing to play through in VR. Since I did go back and play through the HL2 games with a VR mod and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
You can get the 2012 version working since it's a sourcemod. But it's missing a lot of assets like custom weaponry. Though if they do release the source code it would only be a matter of time.

As for the gameplay... Eh. I remember thinking that it was dumb they removed a lot of faster paced things from Alyx. Especially the antlions and fast crabs. But man having played HL2VR I completely understand now. I feel like the further down the release timeline you go the worse they get to play in VR. Fast paced combat is hard to make working in VR, or at least it is too me.

it's insane that the last time we've seen him was 2006.
Good things don't last forever...if you love something you have to let it go...

What do you guys think of HLX? Haven't seen anyone talking about it outside of Tyler McNigger
