UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The fact that, after the London protest, the farmers immediately spread out to protesting at ports should tell you that they're not playing the usual games. They're making an implicit threat of full-blown blockades - or not so implicit in the case of holyhead, where they did in fact blockade the port overnight. Remember that this is the largest transport link between England/Wales and Ireland. I think we've turned the corner on this one and it's not going to be pretty.
We've been here before, many years ago. The Chunnel blockade with the lorry drivers lasted days and achieved very little. That was when we had a backbone. Nowadays? Lend me your optimism.

Every western country, at least. Here the government is talking about subsiding rice farmers more so that we can ensure more food security in times of rising costs.

As corrupt as my third world country can be, the government is at least making sane noises. I can only surmise the WEF tards are running the asylum in most of Western Europe.
It's not just the west. I can point to Sri Lanka, which in 2022 was suffering chronic food shortages after implementing a WEF-inspired total ban on chemical fertilisers in 2019/20. They rolled back the ban in '21, but food yields only recovered this year IIRC. At the time, it was the poster child for the "organic" future promoted by the WEF and co, but it was quickly shunted out of the news cycle when everything went to shit.

This is where you tell me you're from sri lanka and I'm wrong about everything, isn't it?

Fortunately not, so you're very free to call Ceylon the shithole it is. :story:

Don’t worry guys! Immigration will come down! The UK will now be funding the Iraqi and Kurds worth half a million in order to ensure they tackle immigration and smugglers.. totally not going to end up in their own pockets, buy more weapons and smoke shisha laughing all the way to the bank. How will they ensure these funds will actually land in the right place and do what it’s suppose to? Lmao.

These "people" just have a cuckholding fetish and like giving away loads of money to niggers to come over here and kick them in the balls.

Imagine formation muck spreaders massing on the halls of power. I’d pay to see it.
"Muck out. Muck in."

And Starmer is really trying to have his cake and eat it in lambasting Tories for uncontrolled immigration whilst mumbling whenever he's asked how many he thinks is an acceptable number of immigrants.

I'd better get some supplies in this weekend in case these protests persist.

Caught the end of some BBC documentary about immigration whilst visiting relatives. Both sides were presented, but I did notice an acknowledgement that we are on a historic trajectory that will have bad consequences if nothing is done - the summer riots being one example. That being said, most of those interviewed were Conservatives that could have put measures in place but did nothing or made the situation worse.

Was visiting family so unusually I watched television last night. Sky pundits casually discussing "are we already at war with Russia" (they seemed to think so).

What the fuck are they trying to normalise here? Surely any news show would be slapped down for pushing alarmist drivel unless the government was on board with the message. Do they seriously think they can send Brits off to die in Ukraine right after announcing they've imported another million Abduls and Ngubus?

The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia

Gregg Wallace has been sacked off Masterchef and Paul Merson is apparently "ruining Thanksgiving" for expat yankees by refusing to take the Sky NFL coverage seriously on turkey day.

It is a beautiful day to be alive.

I'm sure it'll turn out to be some sort of "he raped me in front of thirty people" allegation from a spurned groupie.

LMFAO IT WAS KIRSTY FUCKING WARK

meanwhile Rod Stewart is sundowning and has gone full tonto on him on the xshitter

Rod Stewart, whose wife, Penny Lancaster, appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in 2021, used his Instagram account later on Thursday to comment on Wallace’s break from the show. Calling him a “tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully”, Stewart said Wallace had humiliated his wife.

He wrote: “So Greg [sic] Wallace gets fired from Master Chef. Good riddance Wallace … You humiliated my wife when she was on the show, but you had that bit cut out didn’t you? You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya. Sir Rod Stewart.”

Almost 28 years ago. I’m feeling old. Wasn’t the nineties last week?

I'm 25. is that young?
You are still at the age range where it's being wasted on you

I need to expand and rant on that because it's flippant.

Every age range and demographic is fully marketed to and exploited. At my age (men of a certain age) log burners, demijohns, cheese cloths and crap old convertibles turn up on pages I visit. When I'm older I will be convinced by influences and peer pressure to rent an allotment for 15 times the cost of my monthly fruit n veg shop.
In life people my age who still rely on physical skills have a grim future and will wear out.
Start a family now! There's a rant about it from the show Gavin and Stacey about how people are never ready, it's much more sensible than anything I can say.
Learn psychology for the same reason weak people learn self defence.
I can't confirm the bit baz said about sunscreen.
People get older, most of them don't grow up. The mentality you're currently dealing with won't change for most of them.

Seems like a lowkey version of liquidating the kulaks.
Here in Scotia we're all still salty about the Highland Clearances.

As for the Young People, some twerp of a Zoomer was gushing about "vintage Simpsons" episodes and I realised (once my aged brain rumbled into action) they were referring to episodes I watched at uni, when they first appeared on telly (lol old).
