Tumblr's mlm tag came up in the Enbie thread, and - the curious idiot I am - I had to go take a peek.

It seems that mlm combines two of the most cancerous portions of tumblr: the gay-fetishizing side obsessed with their yaoi slash couples (all in the guise of being progressive and in favor of muh representation) and the genderspecial side (which brings us to the floods of mlm selfies that are obviously young women/girls who do not try to pass for male, but claim themselves to be transgender).

And, since this is indeed tumblr, we can't forget the constant praise and "support" heaped onto those with psychological/medical conditions.

Frankly, the levels of "uwu so sweet, pure, flawless aesthetic" in this tag are super off-putting. This tag is basically the beating heart of tumblr: a collection of posts about the glorification of disabled, poc, trans, gays as well as selfies of girls with short haircuts and problem glasses with captions like, "wow im hecka cute."

Basically a bunch of teenage girls who are using Tumblr as a platform for roleplaying their yaoi fantasies. They'll probably grow out of it in a couple of years. On the positive side, most of them aren't doing anything to actually transition, so at least they won't have to deal with having done irreversible changes to their bodies on top of their history of being an embarrassing fangirl on the internet.

The weirdest part that I've observed is recently these gender specials have actually been turning on the regular slash fans who don't claim to be trans guys or agender.

The gist is parts of Tumblr have gotten bored of criticizing the straight cis men's sexuality so we're moving onto the ladies. They notice people who write and draw stuff about men fucking were heterosexual women and thus a beautiful salt mine was spawned.

This hit's full irony when you realize that none of these people are men and some of them don't even identity as trans men. There are literally more token gay men spread throughout the slash fandom on Tumblr than there are with these moral crusaders fighting to stop females from making "them" a fetish.

So first you become the yaoi boy, than you turn on all of the heterosexual women who draw and write your porn and claim moral superiority because they're writing it wrong. They mention nipples.

I guess we can expect more teenage girls feel pressured to identity as a demi boi because they want to make their porn preferences unproblematic instead of just saying, "I like dicks and I like when there are more than one in my porn, it doesn't have to be progressive or anything, I just like them."

The first cis gay dude I found in the tags. I wonder what he has to say about all this.

And here, innocent me was thinking fandom couldn't get any stupider than the "x is trans/demigirl/aergender with faeself pronouns, sorry I don't make the rules"-posts...

And then these useless fuckers show up.

I miss the early 2000s, when everybody knew fanfic/art was fetish fuel (in whatever flavor) and didn't hold it up as some kind of holy sacrement of representation.

Oh boy. I have a younger friend (14yo) who is, shall I say, very involved with the "mlm" side of tumblr. Here's twelve MLM blogs that I've found just from glancing over his blog.


Here's even more. You can also find them under the label "Achillean" (relating back to how Achilles was "totally in love" Patroclus or something, I don't know Greek history).

I hate that I'm tumblr enough to say this, but I'm pretty sure it comes from the book "Song of Achilles" which was a YA book a bunch of tumblr read for being about how Achilles was totally in love with Patroclus.

Anyway, is there room in this thread for wlw/sapphic too? Because... Apparently "lesbian" wasn't a good enough word for that either.

Oh my fuck, this whole thread reminds me of someone that I keep tabs on. See, I used to follow her way back during the early days of Tumblr, and she was vaguely normal-ish, with occasional yaoi/slash fangirl sperging (which I get, I can get retarded, too, over certain things). Lo and behold, things happen, I unfollow and lose touch, but years later, her username pops in my head (she never changes it), and BOOM, she's a non-binary trans male on T with a "boyfriend" to act out her slash fantasies with, but she doesn't want a penis, but SHE'S TOTALLY MALE, YOU GUYS, BECAUSE SHE COSPLAYED TONY STARK ONE TIME, AND SHE LIKED IT.

No fucking joke. It's hilarious.

This reminds me of an old friend who is (thankfully) less extreme about it. Said friend is "genderfluid" because she sometimes doesn't like having a vagina and cosplays as male characters. She spends a lot of time on Tumblr and was an avid slash fan before. I think she knows I have low tolerance for that shit though, so she doesn't bring it up around me much. Thank God.
