I refuse to believe anyone cares about Penders stories, and the fact that he just uses ugly humanoid-versions of the echidna characters he drew for the old comics doesn't convince me that he has actually moved forward as such.
as for Ian Flynn, he has proven himself to be just as autistic as you would expect from any Sonic fan, he just started out promising before people got into the nitty gritty.

Honestly, have to give Penders a rare W on this response. He could've been a hell of a lot cattier (and as NegaBoogie said, there's probably some underlying resentment that Ian's made more money off of Sonic fans with loose wallets than Ken ever will with his horrendous-looking and written "original" stories), but considering who it's coming from it's a very reasonable take.
ETA: Especially that last part about Ian "not knowing what to do without Sonic", which is a trap that a lot of writers for established IPs end up facing if they make it their entire identity/professional livelihood, because chances are they will get sacked at some point (especially with how fickle IP rights holders are these days) and unless they have original characters and stories, they're SOL.

Penders' commentary on this nonsense is the "The Worst Person You Know Has Made a Good Point" meme.
I've no doubt that he is enjoying some schadenfreude from Ian's misfortune here. If you read between the lines, he's barely able to contain smug satisfaction over a guy who got to do way more with the Sonic IP in the West (down to writing for the video games and having some degree of access to the movies) than he ever did getting slapped down by Sega. Which is pretty funny given Penders' "original" IP still has hooks into Sonic which shows he still can't let go after all these years. I also doubt his claim about how he stood up for Dan DeCarlo, too, because the lawsuit with Archie ultimately did boo to move the needle on creator rights/royalties in the industry; not in the same way all the lawsuits over Kirby, Siegel-Schuster, etc. did. If anything, it showed Archie's utter incompetence in record keeping.
But that doesn't negate that he's absolutely right about how Ian should be shoring up his own, 100% creator owned content sooner rather than later. After the "Shadow is genderfluid" flap, it ain't a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Ian fagging up Shadow before the movie explicitly about him is almost as hilarious as Ken making it all about himself. That weird cartoon got cancelled because of sexual overtones. They have de-aged the main characters and aren't going anywhere near that nonsense.
Kids are still going to beg to see that movie. What Ian did is retarded though with parents all up in arms about trans people in bathrooms and litter boxes at school (did not ever happen). Hope everyone understands that these are PG movies

I think aside from the Sega thing, I dunno if anyone really took these podcasts as sort off serious lore stuff. Like, most I saw is silly ideas or whatever. But, the declaimer thing is really I did notice some people cutting some podcasts part and removing context. Now, usually its kinda done by people who simp for Penders or still pissy to this day Archie fans. But, thats just my take.
