Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

Linus did a 5 hour computer build stream last week with some employees, Tatjiana showed up at 3:00:00 and will become new nerd waifu material for the LTT horde. Reading the comments people just said she was cute but the LTT moderator was acting like they were saying inappropriate stuff. Apparently she has many videos doing behind the scenes stuff on Floatplane which will probably get an increase in subscribers now, nerd only fans. There are new mouse mats on the way along with some attempt at hypercolor shirts/clothes as well. Linus also learned that it costs $5,000/month to power all his offices, in one of the cheapest power cities in the western world due to hydro electric access.

And today Linus put out a gay anti-Trump, pro-immigration rapists, pro-globalization and pro-Chyna dick sucking video about why we should just let less developed countries make everything. It is full of false things about people not wanting to pay more for better stuff (lie), the unemployment rate is already so low we need more people and can't make everything (lie), companies can't find people to work for them (lie, unless it's slave labor), and um, akshually, sweaty, you're already paying more for stuff because tariffs on Chyna years ago meant the companies built plants in other places and pushed the cost onto the consumer. In short, let Chyna build everything, spy on you, consoom the $200 dollar TCL 55" TV.

Yes, let's listen to economic advice from a guy who has multiple failing businesses and doesn't understand the value of money. Fuck this retard.

Pro-China is a rational stance for rational people. I’m surprised Linus has the intellect to arrive at that, though less surprised to see the opposite here on the farms. I guess probably Linus relies on Yvonne to do his thinking for him, she strikes me as quite sharp.

The funniest timeline is we know that GN just freed up five figures of NZXT Ad Spend, and they could take that to LTT to shill rental computers while also completely ignoring the situation.
Just like EK, I don't think there's a coming back for NZXT after this burn. This makes everything covered earlier seem like innocent mistakes in comparison.
It was a grift to surpass LLT, and even bigger grifts like EK. Linus can't touch this even if he was wearing powerarmor built out of all the money he's flushed down the drain.
Though if he does, the justifications from himself and his fanboys will be priceless.

Seriously though, many other tech channels probably had Christmas ad contracts with NZXT so it'll be interesting to see how people respond to this.

or what about Linus just rebadges it with his own sticker and sells it himself.
Could even put some Troon pride stickers on it.

This isn't a sponsor doing some epic own, this is literally just an ad.

Viral marketing is cancer. Ad agencies manage these X accounts and being sassy is a $0 way to get the public to share your brand account for free. Block this AIDS on sight, don't share it.

I know it was an ad. I was pointing out how fucking dumb it was. Dbrand charges way too much for their shit, and the fact that they're sponsoring this faggot should tell you about their overall brand.

It'll be a mixed bag. I imagine other creators will agree to not advertise the computer rentals now that GN has painted how much of an absolute fucking scam it is, but even GN admits the components they make are mostly fine (for now), and their hardline stance is a matter of ethics. Most other tech channels will be able to easily draw that line and probably still advertise parts.

LTT however, both has a LOT of advertising space to fill, and is more than willing to ignore some inconvenient truths to shill a product or service. Especially since NZXT is probably suddenly very interested in some damage control brand partnerships right about now, regardless of the price tag.

The NAS software that Linus invested in is now available as a paid beta for $100, going up to $200 tomorow, $300 in early 2025.
Software looks barely functional at this moment, no long-term target market, tons of other critical issues that have been discussed before, that's not what I found interesting.

The only people I see buying/defending the software, have no (realistic) plan of ever actually building a NAS. Their decisions are driven by FOMO and the "savings" of it being 66% off. The common refrain is that they are the "target market" of tech illiterate retards, and they're buying now in-case they decide they want to build one in the future. The first couple times I saw this sentiment I was convinced it was someone taking the piss, but no, this really just is the Linus audience now.

I also came away with a sense that many in his audience view assembling a PC as being the greatest technical accomplishment of their lives, something that pushed the bounds of their ability and intellect. And because of that, they see buying pre-built NAS as a moral failing for some reason. I laugh when they follow that up with a reminder that their time is super valuable or better yet that they "work in tech".

Semi-related: general expectation was that HexOS would get to 10k-20k sales @$100, it looks like they're on-track to sell ~25k by the end of their promotion. So as a rough metric Linus can will his community to spend ~$2.5M collectively on something he pushes hard. I wonder how this compares to sales for Marques Brownlee's app Panels, for smartphone backgrounds/themes. I don't have a clear idea of exactly how big that got.

Outsourcing the manufacturing of essential tech to other countries is how you set yourself up to be a slave to those countries. I don't understand what's so rational about it.
Especially now when Israel just showed it was perfectly normal and fine to shove explosives in consumer electronics and most people in the West world praise the action. Literally what's stopping china from going full Kingsman and one day exploding every cell phone made by them over the last dozen years.

Now more than ever it's obvious you can't trust other countries that hate you to build shit for you

I mean right off the bat, the idea sounds appealing/interesting and $100 isn't that much for a lifetime license - but why the fuck would I set up something like a NAS/server for long term use with something that isn't even open source and take the huge financial risk that this startup company will fail like 99% of startup companies do and then the software just ends up abandoned completely?

I can't even be fucked to search but I'm guessing there must be like 10 open source projects out there that do basically the same thing already. I would be surprised if there weren't.

This also allows chicoms to become established in the market without any real competitors. Almost all electronic devices are now made in China (or smaller asian countries).

All this for glorified TruNAS scale, which is free.

Since I have unfortuntaly watched part of his other videos recently linked here, I got youtube algorithm'd his latest one. My only question, who is this video for? Sure we can ooh and ahh at the new CPU and it's many cores, but what does supermicro get out of it? LTT's audience doesn't appear to be the type to buy any server.

I watched half of it and got pissed off that their demonstration of such an enormously powerful CPU is to try and play YouTube videos with no hardware acceleration. Jake has to tell Linus like 3 times that it's accelerated on the GPU as Linus got confused the CPU was barely being touched meanwhile the GPU was going up >50% utilization.

Then they decide they might resurrect a shitty old video they did years ago where they tried to open as many Chrome tabs as possible. Them getting confused that tools like Cinebench don't even really work when you have 768 CPU threads was frustrating too. I didn't watch long enough to see whether they address the issue of Windows and processor groups.

Basically Windows has some fundamental limitations around >64 core processors which Microsoft hacked around by creating a concept called "processor groups". So unless whatever tool you're running happens to be aware of processor groups and able to address CPUs in other groups, you're basically not going to be able to use more than 64 cores at one time with the application.

So why the fuck run a shitty OS like Windows on a platform like this? Who the fuck knows. Linus is a goddamn retard. Unbelievable this is a sponsored video too, who the hell is in charge of server purchasing and makes their decisions based on Linus videos? Supermicro should send this shit to Wendell next time, at least he could perform a useful demonstration.

No can do. Linus needs the sponsor bucks for his super brand new TV setup in his McMansion and make a 50th video about it.
