Hi American here. Just wanted to clarify. That is a sweet potato casserole. It is a side served at Thanksgiving but it is considered a sweet side dish rather a savory. It typically has three layers depending on the recipe. Sweet potato mixture, a layer of brown sugar/pecans, and the top layer of marshmallows. My mom makes one every Thanksgiving and has since I was young. I forgot this isn't a normal thing. Hope that helps for the non-Americans.

In a typical arab supermarket you can find jars filled with pickled carrots, cabbage, paprika, mushrooms, celery roots, egg plants etc.

Off topic but, it's bizarre and maybe a little unsettling how diverse America is. Am American, have never eaten or seen sweet potato casserole in my life and if I did I'd wonder why it wasn't just made into pie. I wonder if people in say, Wales, have the same experience where weirdos in the northern half are eating strange alien foods that those in the southern half would never eat in a million years, or if this is just an American melting pot issue.
