KR South Korean president declares emergency martial law, accusing opposition of anti-state activities

Article | Archive

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law,” Tuesday accusing the country’s opposition of controlling the parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities.

Yoon made the announcement during a televised briefing. He declared the step as critical for defending the country’s constitutional order. It wasn’t immediately clear how the steps would affect the country’s governance and democracy.

Yoon since taking office in 2022 had struggled to push his agendas against an opposition-controlled parliament.

ou do realize that this is more or less how most pozzed dictatorships in history came about?
I can understand where you're coming from, but at the same time it rarely ends well.
Personally I’m tired of “”democracy”” and leftists being allowed to speak and would prefer an autocrat. If he eliminates the leftists in his country then it’s a success to me. The same thing needs to happen across the West.

The thing is. Countries that have an ongoing internal crisis are more prone to being invaded. It could be the case of "nothing ever happens" again, but the chances of something happening from the outside aren't zero.
The DPRK would be hard pressed to make a move. The ROK and US military have plans for defense during goverment unrest, the Korean Goverment doesn't seem to be interfering with US forces and allowing them to continue as normal and the US can use the Navy's 7th Fleet to bolster defenses unabated.

No, that's not what we're dealing with. The charges are legit. Moreover, this isn't a "wow look half the country hates him" thing with US presidents. Depending on the poll you use, Yoon's approval rate is in the twenties. Dude is pretty widely hated. Even the head of his own party has called Yoon a retard and has said he'll work with the Democrats to end the martial law shit.

This isn't US politics. Don't assume things are in any way similar.
It's a very big ask to tell people to trust the media to accurately project public opinion.
Donald Trump as well has approval rating in the low 20s according to the media, until it's election day and he sweeps the election

You're only saying that because you haven't lived it.
And what’s the alternative? It seems to me that the only alternative to forceful rule is letting leftists hamstring you and use constitutional parliamentary trickery to impede your every step. No one has disputed here that Yoon’s opposition are a bunch of leftists who are part of that weird feminist sex cult, so what’s the alternative? Autocracy or Communism? I will take autocracy.

I know this is how many Kiwis think. You should ideally move to an autocratic country then and see how much you like it instead of enjoying the comforts of a Western democracy and moaning like a tard. Anywayzzz

Footage of some Blackhawks patrolling what I assume to be downtown Seoul (Parliament)?
