Kennel Club Book Club - The Megathread for all furry comic book, graphic novel and literature lunacy.

Just finished reading through this and I wish i can reclaim the time I spent reading through this slop. My quick review is that its OC/mary sue ridden slop with the backdrop of a human vs furry conflict. Any themes/political commentary that the author tries(if he even tried) to convey is nullified by a lack of continuity between chapters(and panels) and the shoving of OP OCs slaughtering the hecking human chuds. The only remotely amusing part is where the human supremacist faction commit mass murders on furries and callling them "furfag scums."

So I guess that sperg on BWW was onto something?

Well only a part of it. I think a big part of that BBW article is just spergs being spergs. That article's turbo autist author is taking a shitty furry goon slop comic too seriously. B4 i went into the comic i looked through the author's catalog in which I found the typical red flags of a gooner and went in with the comic equivalent expectations of watching shitty B movies.

That art is.... I know what they're going for but the little x eyes and everything just makes it unintentionally hilarious, like as if this is supposed to be considered humorous in the context of what's happening.
Yeah alot of the comic is unintentionally amusing. There was a scene where the humans gassed the furfags WW1 style which I think is meant to portray them as chuds, but all thats in my head is "BASED BASED BASED".

This sort of tonal whiplash gives me Freedom Planet vibes. Is there by any chance a scene where some of the characters are making cooties jokes before being violently tortured a few minutes later?

Idk about freedom planet nor are there a scene like the on you're describing, but theres a pretty amusing one where the chuddies used a jihadi bot to gasbomb a furfag demonstration. Note the faggot flag in the background of the first panel. The implication is kino.

Slightly Dammed

Part 1, Chapter 1 Pages 1-94

Intro.png

Background
This is my first "proper" post on the farms as a long time lurker (so please bully me hard), but this is a review and postmortem of a long and fairly popular web-comic, Slightly Dammed. It was written written by Filipino-American, Sarah Wilson known as “The chu". It was a comic that started in 2004 by the then teenage artist being the start of a long story that had very old-tumblr style humour and writing. But it was a neat package with a bit of romance, drama and action.

But! Just like everything, this comic has degraded... It is still currently running on over its 1000th page, existing as a bloated mess written by a now, “They/Them” in which every single character is some kind of “queer”.
Featuring some funny things like....

1723535171562.png
1723709690993.png

Another way in which this comic has gone from fun to "dead to me" is that Chu had spent years with the comic featuring absolutely nothing sexual at all. In fact the whole thing was genuinely pretty wholesome.
Despite this, the comic managed to stay at the top of “top web comics” for years despite being a site where the top 10 was almost always NSFW.
1723709995154.png
However just like everything else in this story, that was also ruined. Chu has ditched that philosophy and is now doing more and more of what she calls “#SpicyStuff”
Which includes making weird ""SFW"" Fetish, plushie TF vore
1723710085331.png
But before we get to how it ended up there, lets start at the beginning where I really liked this comic

Chapter 1
2004-03-13.png
Pages 0-94
The comic starts off with the OC furry race of the writer, A Jakkai named Rhea waking up dead and being told by death that she was too good for hell but not good enough for heaven.
As such, Rhea gets dumped in a wasteland outside of hell called the ring of the slightly dammed to seemingly suffer forever. However she is not alone! Death sticks our self-insert protagonist with a guide/demon to look after her named Buwaro.
Most of the first pages are fairly fun shenanigans showing off the universe and slowly introducing the characters.

Rhea is a decent character, very clearly being an idealised version of the author. But she is tough but not outside being a little silly. She also introduces the the viewer to the fact that this world has magic as she has vague earth magic. This pairs well with Buwaro who is very naive, immature... and a total idiot (He plays with rocks)
1723710807717.png

As the story goes on you get a bit more of Death who acts a bit like a father figure, Buwaro’s sister Sakido a hot topic demon and their big brother. A big fluffy drunk dog called Iratu
1723710906392.png
1723710893260.png

After our main two piss of Sakido they make a deal with her and are forced to go into hell proper to get something back for Her.
This leads to some shenanigans where we see various things like that Cerberus has only two heads and we get to meet some of the other demons.
On top of there there is a strange beam of light that appears like a beacon on the sky. Our two leads don't know what this is, but the other demons seem to.
1723711007050.png

After a bit of action and some minor drama but quickly in the last few pages there is no time for fun and games as the plot has to actually move (Something that stops later...)
They get grabbed by sakido and they are taken into the beam.
Sakido fucking dies, Killed by what appears to be a human of sorts...1723711185320.png
The chapter concludes with Rhea and Buwaro now on the surface world, having fully escaped hell. Thing are sombre but with the chapter ending a new one begins as the story changes beats and starts to pick up.
Overall I like the comic in these early days. The art very mixed, but usually pretty bad... however it does get better pretty quickly.
For an autistic teenage girl the writing is fun, wholesome and there is genuine intrigue. And I think the setting is a great hook.
This first chapter of the comic was marked with frequent uploads, the plot was constantly moving and the art was slowly getting better.

From that point on the story pretty much gets better in most regards up until the cursed years of 2016 doth approach.

I'll cover some more aspects in a later post, but I thought I would just generally lay the ground work for covering a comic that is both enjoyable and has a bit of that lolcow energy

I remember someone bringing up slightly damned on the bad webcomics thread, looked it up on the bad webcomics wiki and the author of the review quoted Mr Enter of all people on his review
Edit: gave that review a 2nd look and i completely forgot the guy who wrote it was a fan who was salty about being kicked out of the author's discord lmao

The bad webcomics wiki page for this comic is pretty bad, not even really being critical of what it does wrong, more just giving an overview.
It used to be wayyyy different comparing it to another furry comic called "Jack" which I haven't read much of - but it really isn't a comparison other than the fact that some characters go to hell.

I just went to see if I could find the original, also terrible review and I saw this.

it has been a while since i posted here so let's do this

Bullet Crow, Fowl of Fortune By Chuck Fiala

About the creator:

Charles "Chuck" Fiala is a comic book artist from the Chicago area in the United States. He began his career as a contributor to the fanzine The Comic Reader from 1979 through the early 1980s, creating series like Bullet Crow and Fowl of Fortune. He also appeared in The Spirit Jam published by Kitchen Sink Press before beginning a partnership with DC Comics in the mid-1980s. Fiala worked on cover illustrations and served as both penciller and inker on titles such as Bugs Bunny, Private Life of the Teen Titans, Raccoon Kids, and Stanley and His Monster.

1730483474748.pngIn 1987, he was drawing Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters and Bullet Crow for Eclipse Comics. Fiala also wrote stories for Roger Rabbit published by Disney and illustrated Bugs Bunny, Looney Tunes, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Tazmania for Warner Bros. comic books and comic strips. Later, he began publishing his own risqué comics featuring Phantom Bunny, a character from his Bullet Crow stories, on his blog. He now works as a web developer at Shaw Suburban Media and previously served as the coordinator for the advertising art department at the Daily Herald from 1994 to 2009.

Bullet Crow Fowl of Fortune:

1730483898110.png Bullet Crow: Fowl of Fortune is an independent comic miniseries created by Charles "Chuck" Fiala, first appearing in the early 1980s. Originally published through contributions to the fan magazine The Comic Reader, Bullet Crow quickly gained a micro following with its mix of humor, satire, classic noir-inspired aesthetics, and of course bunny tits.
The series follows Bullet Crow, a hard-boiled, trench-coat-wearing crow detective navigating a world of anthropomorphic animals with coronary canary and of course Bonnie Bunny aka Phantom Bunny.
While Fiala primarily self-published Bullet Crow through fanzines, his work attracted the attention of both fans (*cough* furfags *cough*) and publishers, paving the way for later collaborations with established publishers like Eclipse Comics, where he continued to evolve the character.

Behind the scenes, Fiala's inspiration for Bullet Crow stemmed from his fascination with classic film noir and a love for cartooning, blending gritty crime tropes with a humorous, anthropomorphic twist. This early work showcased Fiala's inventive storytelling and artistry, which would later contribute to his diverse career across major publishers such as DC Comics and Disney.

Chuck Fiala in the age of the internet:

after a "career" in the Comic industry our boy Chuck Fiala saw the potential in his Furbait Bunny bimbo and with the popularization of the internet art scene, he decided to use this opportunity to create not just one blog, not two but three art blogs where he takes commissions and mostly draws fetish art using his bunny character and other character.

MOSTLY FUTA SHIT

1730492001779.png
1730492075463.png

Conclusion:

so what can we conclude from this? well, our Chuck Fiala was once a decent artist who wanted to make a name for himself in the comic industry but sadly went with the Furfag fetish and degeneracy pipeline and his art declined even worst than Puppychan.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS AND THANKS FOR READING!

Facts not in evidence. He draws 1 degree better than your average deviantart tier sperg.
personally i kinda disagree and not because i like his degenerate works but I think that he is a decent artist since he worked for major comic publishers so he is at least not an awful artist and has some talent, if you check his gallery you find that yes this guy was getting jobs more often than you might.
I observed that he had a cartoonish art style that was somewhat acceptable back then. However, it appears that his art style has not evolved, even with the variety of comics he has worked on; in fact, it seems to have gone in the opposite direction.
but yeah the blog and fetish art is shit, no doubt about that.
1730503201260.png

and yes once he started leaning to the "risqué" and basically furbait territory, you realize that perhaps Chuck's horniness led to his art decline :| (that's my headcanon at least)
also because i can't draw I'm a little soft on people's art but that's on me tbf.

Thank-you for sharing all that. It was interesting to read.
well glad to hear that, thanks.

Frankly, most furry artists getting paid for commissions today are much better. If Chuck tried to post his stuff today, it would get no traction for being simply terribly drawn. It's only tolerable when it's in the tiny comic page panel size and you can't notice his inability to draw straight lines or anything approaching reasonable anatomy.

Looking at it, Bullet Crow is kinda garbage. The gags are mildly amusing and I like the black and white style but a lot of the layouts are unreadable and he CAN NOT do anatomy to save his life.
I like the strip on top of the observatory but it feels like the start to a longer strip. It never goes anywhere.
Anyway, his style really reminds me of the sort of shit you'd see in a DC Thomson or Viz strip.

I wanna see his Cool World comic actually. That film was a big tribute to underground shit that was awkwardly reprocessed and neutered by the execs. Wonder how he'd handle it.

Currently malding because the NoP kemono page finally updated, but there's a massive skip where all the Patreon uploads between NoP2-67 and Sovlin's Transcript 3/13 aren't there. I can read the missing main story pages on Plebbit but this means the entire arxur tale and this Sovlin yarn are still inaccessible. I hope this travesty can be fixed because I really don't want to pay. 🇮🇱

Bit of an unexpected post, I actually wanted to write a bit about some "korps" stories that had been released to the public. However I could not no-life myself reading dozens of chapters of mid-era tumblr sludge with so much tone-indicators it looked like soup. However as of recent, they have been serialising and now selling these (presumably with some changes to the story or minor changes of some kind) on furplanet now. As seen on this page

The art from induction is from the authors BF whom, if I recall, draws scat porn. Eight-strokes, if you are willing to look into it. Either way, if someone stronger than me wants to do a review I can provide the google docs of the stories in full for all to see. I consider it a "library of alexandria for degeneracy", if you will. It is quite gut wrenching to see lonely men above the age of 35 dedicate themselves to this.

I have a copy of Induction that I acquired for the explicit purpose of reviewing for this thread (lmfao). I've just been putting off reading it because I fucking hate transbians AND superheroes, so I needed a period of reading Actual Good Shit before subjecting myself to humorous self-torture via sloppy furry literature. Now that I know I'm not the only one curious over how funny/bad Korps is, I guess I'll crack into it in a week or so.

In the meantime, if you would like some extremely cursed content, they have a youtube channel. (I could not make it through because both of them have absolutely grating voices and 5 minutes in they start sperging about Fox New and lamenting about how people hate trannies.)
