South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law,” Tuesday accusing the country’s opposition of controlling the parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities.

Yoon made the announcement during a televised briefing. He declared the step as critical for defending the country’s constitutional order. It wasn’t immediately clear how the steps would affect the country’s governance and democracy.

Yoon since taking office in 2022 had struggled to push his agendas against an opposition-controlled parliament.

There were Chinese and even Blacks and Muslims in the SS. It's a unique case of extreme civic nationalism.

I'm personally not too surprised about this development, South Korea is controlled by Chaebols anyway. It doesn't matter which party wins, they get benefits. China's the opposite where large companies are afraid of the state, they would even fudge numbers so they don't appear too successful, especially with Xi. Japan is the only one that has a somewhat fair governmental system.

Chances are it's yet another Chaebol-state struggle feud that normies can do nothing to fix.

The parliament has passed a bill to immediately end martial law, with all 190 MPs yaying.

Now we'll have to see how the tank outside the building votes.

I've watched several documentaries about South Korea, a couple specifically on K-Pop. I think I understand a little. K-Pop is especially demented because it portrays something that does not and can not exist: a person (the star) who seems all powerful and free with a robust social life, but nothing could be further from the truth. Everything they do is carefully controlled, they are an automaton in isolation. The common people are desiring to be or be with someone/something that never existed in the first place.

Edit: I don't know how to confirm this, but I heard the government subsidizes the k-pop for "national morale." It's propaganda.
