KR South Korean president declares emergency martial law, accusing opposition of anti-state activities

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law,” Tuesday accusing the country’s opposition of controlling the parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state activities.

Yoon made the announcement during a televised briefing. He declared the step as critical for defending the country’s constitutional order. It wasn’t immediately clear how the steps would affect the country’s governance and democracy.

Yoon since taking office in 2022 had struggled to push his agendas against an opposition-controlled parliament.

So is it standard practice for the opposition party to have every member ready to storm parliament and vote 3 hours after martial law declared?
In western nations it's difficult to have every member show up for Inauguration day
I mean...SK is a small country with good infrastructure. Or maybe parliament was in session this week so they were already in Seoul?
You can't just say "yeah martial law is over go home" via vote. You have to enforce it with arms and men.

President Yoon has some of that, but I don't see the opposition mobilizing anyone. Good luck enforcing your whims with strong language and hope.
Yeah the only thing I can see really scaring the military out of this is the U.S. so hopefully either Biden doesn't come out against it or Trump says something that gives them the courage to stick it out until he is inaugurated.

Martial law being declared would directly affect them, as Yeong is basically calling them pro-North korean spies and traitors, That mobilizes people real quick

I vaguely recall cases of Koreans and Japanese serving in SS now that you mention it. I might just be conflating things and it was just the one dude.
Were there Japs? I only recall two Korean dudes that got drafted after going on a forced world tour as jap conscripts, then Russian conscripts and then they "joined" the SS and got captured by the Americans at D.Day
