This might be a little off-topic or even a bit late, but here's my input on the KC connection. KC totally was friends with Shmork to some capacity, but I think he's staying hush hush because he despises drama of any sort. I remember years back when the Pictures For Sad Children cartoonist burned a bunch of books he made for a Kickstarter and KC made like a single tweet about how depressed the whole situation made him and it got quoted everywhere and KC got all stressed out because he had no real intention in becoming involved. KC is the same person who isn't a big fan of "Dick-Butt" and the "This Is Fine Dog" being blown up to meme status and endlessly re-edited without his permission. I've met KC multiple times at Cons since like the start of his career and I honestly just think he's just a real nice guy who likes to draw and probably gave Shmork the chance to help with his Adult Swim bumps out of the kindness of his heart.
And I mean if you look at the Lamezine they were apart of, there is a lot of other well known internet cartoonists and even Car Seat Headrest, an indie rock musician, who performed on Colbert a few months back. I honestly doubt that KC is a bad guy.
