I would take this with a grain of salt though. Some reports say the suspect waited around for hours, and I assume he would’ve had his exit plan arranged way before 6:44am. The timeline just doesn’t really add up, but maybe I’m misunderstanding something. Also, seems like it would be very stupid to use one of those citibikes pulled from a dock next to where the hit is going to occur. Not sure what to make of it.

I'm not convinced it was a Ruger Mark IV, when he re-racks it after each shot he is grabbing pretty far forward on the muzzle to crank it back and the mark iv you grab from the round bit at the back. Looks like he is grabbing a slide like on a modern auto loader.

But there's no reason to believe the guy who did it got the thing in New York City. It was the annual shareholder meeting, the details of that are widely publicized. Someone with a grudge could have made a road trip.

Yeah I've been reading they're tracking the bikes rented etc and might be able to get payment information. It seems like someone who was patient and brazen enough to do this in broad daylight and also wear clothes are inconspicuous may have just rented, stolen, or just bribed someone for to act as a red herring.

This comes off as a professional job.
The shooter knew where Brian Thompson was at all times enough to pinpoint and get the drop on him amongst a large area in public. he approached nonchalantly, cleared that jam with no problem and walked off calmly.
My speculation on the gun and it's jamming is that the users saying the gun is modified for the suppressor may be onto something. Here in Cali where it is harder to acquire guns, the method people use to get away with obtaining firearms through gray methods is by piece-making the gun through online and hobbyist purchases and combining the parts you buy. This makes the gun incredibly hard to source and easy to get rid of it again by disassembling and dispersing the pieces. Ultimately the shooter may have been using a "disposable" gun using parts that are reliable enough to work, but not expensive or dedicated enough that you would miss them when you inevitably ditch them. This is why it could have jammed and why the shooter was able to clear the jam almost immediately. This would explain why this detail seems so slapdash compared to the rest of the operation.
If the guy isn't caught in the next day or two, I think we can expect to never find the murder weapon intact again.

In a city like NYC its probably super, mega trivial to just rent 4-5 places with multiple/different names/identities in advance on a medium term basis.

People should keep in mind that its been like 2 years since someone made an AI website that generates highly plausible fake IDs from any state (using AI). With how easy it is to commit credit fraud/identity theft, it is totally trivial to set this shit up.

The other option is that he has friends/family who "know what's up" and will shelter him regardless of consequences (I would imagine aggrieved people whose mother/parent is dying because of ShitHealth Co's decisions would be up for that).

If the guy is an actual pro contract-killer then most likely whatever mafia outfit have safehouses or whatever that he could just walk into and camp out until the heat dies down.

There are plenty of sites online that will send you the tube and baffles for suppressors which is completely legal as long as you don't take the step of clipping the baffles before you Form 1 it.
