So there's apparently a new Ranma 1/2 anime in the works

I recall the old anime had an episode where Ryoga and Mousse team up and that tries to insert some BS that "female Ranma is weaker but faster" but IIRC that's not manga-canon.

The only time I recall female Ranma being at a disadvantage was during the moxibustion storyline, but it wasn't due to strength -- when Mousse is first introduced, Ranma's short arms and legs couldn't compete with Mousse's.

And apperently Takahashi doesn't view Mermaid Saga as completed

I've always hoped for more Mermaid saga stories, and I've heard her say the same thing, but I'm not sure where else she'd go with it -- it had really started to get "out there" (Mermaid's Gaze?). I tended to view early InuYasha as a sort of thematic sequel. Mao sometimes hits those same notes. Still, it would be nice to see how Mana and Yuta are getting along in the age of social media.

I really enjoyed the new UY adaptation (I was mostly there to make sure they did Ran right). I know I won't get it, but I'd love an adaptation where Nabiki goes on the date with the guy, and they spend the night trying to pass their bills off to one another. The original anime went off the rails pretty quickly for me, between the obvious drop in the animation budget and their decision to do original stories, for whatever reason.

I hated that story when I read it for the first time two weeks ago. Then I learned how weak yen is as a currency. And I liked a decent chunk of the original stories from the anime. Part of why I didn't like the arc is because Nabiki really works best as a side character and not the driving force of a plot.

Inuyasha doesn't seem all that interesting to me. I know that I will like UY and Maison while Mermaid Saga seems up my ally.

Inuyasha always gave me mixed feelings because after decades of Takahashi being the most inventive mangaka on the entire island, her biggest success yet was one that felt not only like a standard shonen, but also felt like a huge recycling of her past concepts (I can't be the only one who noticed the base premise of a girl time travelling back to Feudal Japan and falling in love with a hot warrior was basically the plot of the Rumic World story "Fire Tripper").

I do like how they emphasize the height difference between male and female Ranma. I don't recall Takahashi or the original anime doing that.

There's something wrong with the new crop of remakes but for some stories like Spice and Wolf our only choice will be to watch since the originals didn't go very far.

I miss the scene where Ranma's dad was munching a rice ball the annoying skater girl Azusa tried to take, and when Genma swallowed it she waffled him with a chair. "Josephine! You ate my Josephine"!

Lots of Ranma video games portrayed Ranma that way, maybe they're not considered canon either, but it makes sense.

The back half of Ranma is just bad

I thought it was good, more "serious" combat in the last arc was nice. I thought the ending was okay too, nothing amazing.

Inuyasha doesn't seem all that interesting to me.

The first season is very good (animation especially is peak, probably one of the last shows seemingly not infected by digital art/CGI at all, at least early on). Problem is as it goes on it feels repetitive and I don't think the sort of episodic nature fits it as well as something like Ranma. But the cast is unmatched, there's not one character I didn't like, which is impressive because it's a huge cast.

Hate to break it to you but the ice skating story was three episodes in the original anime too. EDIT: Actually, while what I said is technically true, now that I've watched a bit of the remake I can see how there might be a problem.

I have not watched the remake yet, tho I did find someone on Nyaa who is apparently doing "cleaned up subtitles" for this version (he specifically mentioned making them more accurate).

EDIT: So I just started watching the remake. I'm... already hating it (And yes I'm watching that version I referred to earlier).

Five minutes in, my biggest issue is this version is hyperactive. The original anime had a good mix of chill and action. But this version does every single sequence as if it has to be the most energetic over-the-top thing imaginable, and it feels tiring.

There was one scene just a short way in that offended me. Its when Soun finally meets Ranma. For some reason in this version Ranma is smiling, blushing, playing with his hair, with this filter around the shot. I also already get a hint that its trying hard to over-emphasize Akane because it knows she's gonna be important.

A lot of what I'm not liking is reminding me of feelings I had towards Peter Jackson's version of Lord of the Rings, so its not a good sign.

Actually, its going to be about 2 1/3 episodes for the ice skating story and then Shampoo gets introduced

The original anime had a good mix of chill and action. But this version does every single sequence as if it has to be the most energetic over-the-top thing imaginable, and it feels tiring.

There was a charm to the OG that was convayed with the score. It was calm yet action packed and the world had time to breath.

Also everyone's body language. That's one thing I also noticed is there's this feeling of "overselling" everything.

But weirdly its also paradoxically lazy in a few ways. Its hard to explain but I just noticed it when I compared this episode to the original anime. One example that stands out is Genma, after he knocks Ranma out, notices all the people standing around and gossiping about it, then he growls to scare them away. It somehow looks more high-effort in the original anime whereas here it looks lazy.
