UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot outside Hilton hotel in Midtown in targeted attack: cops - Just Part and Parcel of visiting a Big City

Why can't crazy unhinged people in America do things like this more often. Why do most of them go to elementary schools and target little kids instead? Even if your goal is to just kill someone and you're not motivated by anything particularly noble, why go after random innocent people instead of someone like this?
Because most of the sociopaths shooting up schools aren’t trying to make a profound statement about society they just want to inflict maximum suffering because they are sadists. Even the Columbine kids who claimed to be getting revenge on bullies shot 95% strangers who never knew them.

Incredibly based killer. Total Corpo Death.
Can't agree more to this. I don't know much on how these people threated their customers, but from a quick read it looks they were the scum of the Earth.
I'm sad for his family, being left without father or husband isn't the ideal, despite the cynicism (such as "oh, she'll remarry soon" and the sorts).
I'm also sadden for the killer's family, they're gonna face lots of shit now.

But then again, this is one of the few occasions I can use the following file:

(SkyEye, from Ace Combat 5's Arcade mode. I was hoping to get Pixy's, but he's got around 2000 recordings.)

Given the venal state of the US health insurance industry, I'm surprised this sort of thing hasn't happened before. It's difficult to imagine how anyone could pay through the nose for something that most developed countries are able to provide free at the point of service, have enough nous gain some cursory knowledge of the various political machinations which keep this status quo in place, and then not feel righteously angry at the ways they're being shafted as a consequence.

I would never endorse a violent act like this, but you'd have to be willfully blind to ignore the broader political context here, or pretend that the victim in this case was some totally innocent party who did nothing to invite what is clearly an act of political retaliation against a real injustice.

Interestingly, according to OpenSecrets, 90.24% of UnitedHealth Group lobbyists in 2024 have previously held US government jobs. Definitely nothing corrupt about that, surely?
since this I've been wondering a LOT about how much this happens and cops just don't put out a press release.

Can a burger please explain to me how you can murder one of the cities elites in fucking midtown and not get caught due to the 20.000 CCTV's you have in that city?

This guy is in fucking Canada by now or something similar 100%, how is it possible they didn't catch him by now?
He's not from NYC, he was in town from Minnesota. So it's not like a normal investigation where they'd assume it was an ex-partner or similar. The cops can't talk to his neighbors and ask what they saw, he's an out of towner.

The "friends" he does have at the event are all likely to be finance guys/MBAs who are mistrustful & keep their circles small generally. They're not going to be open with police or give most details about him until legal clears it.

A lot of security officers have second jobs. So they're probably not actually that observant just over-tired. They also don't necessarily like rich guys like this dude. Sometimes in a building like that guests complain about the staff not smiling enough and other bullshit where lower wage workers doing those jobs just feel like "fuck that guy."

The shooter looks like a pretty generic white guy. Originally they were calling the backpack "distinctive" but it's really not. That's a pretty popular type of backpack with people under about 40 I see them around my city all the time.

NYPD has had a lot of issues hiring, had people take early retirement etc. The Mayor of NYC was indicted recently. Who's going to quarterback this? If this happened during the time I lived in NYC Bloomberg would've handled it quickly. But mayors like that who do useful things like stopping & frisking people who look like a suspect all got called Nazis. So you know NYPD wasn't stopping & frisking guys who looked vaguely like that immediately after it happened.

I hope this guy is in Montreal having a REALLY good day. Really, I do. And I hope the Quebec gov't are real pricks with the Canadian feds over it and try to shield him. And I hope that even the Canadian feds are irritated enough about Trump's recent remarks that they make it even harder than normal to extradite this guy.

The question is, does his wife have to pay his medical expenses?
Media reporting his wife and he have lived separately for many years. Makes her “he lit up the room” ring even more hollow than usual. She didn’t even want to share a house with his “light”, never mind a room.

I hope that investigators work this hard if I'm ever murdered.
You better hope your murderer is less competent than this guy because, thus far, the investigators are pretty incompetent.

It's funny to me. I hope it keeps going. And I hope the assassin is in a non-extradition country by now.

yeah if the ID is fake then this nigga is long gone. I know I posited previously that he just didn't give a fuck and went on his merry way but using fake ID really means he planned things out very well and is long gone.

I doubt he will ever be found (unless they get a clear/usable picture of his face, none so far are usable at all) and this does somewhat quite raise the possibility that it was a contract killing (some people think this isn't the case because the gun misfired but maybe that was the only gun they could get anonymously - maybe it was ordered from the darknet or something).

Him staying at a hostel means he probably wasn't a local and must have scoped out things for quite a while or even that was a red herring also.

Their only hope of "catching" him aside from CCTV is either DNA on the shit he left behind which were a candywrapper + bottle + mobile phone, but if he was using fake ID those might've all just been bullshit distractions he left OR they're going to have to manually scrap though hundreds of thousands/millions of hours of videos on Tiktok/Instagram and try to see if someone caught his face clearly.

It's been what, 36 hours since the killing? and all they have are 3-4 super grainy/shitty CCTV stills that aren't enough to identify him.

Someone should start, via Twitter and Facebook, a nationwide time of prayer for the safe getaway of this man. Make CEO’s a bit afraid and maybe stop and think about what their policies are doing.

Why them in particular?

Personally, I think Pharmaceutical would be the logical next choice.

So many mixed emotions... First off though we have to acknowledge that nothing of value was lost. But not in a specific sense but a blanket systemic one for his position.. which raises questions about the nature of it as a whole.

On a practical level though.. this is disturbing. If just a victim of the company or family member it's not as bad and a lot more understandable. But if this is professional and or some kind of ideological (leftist) thing. Then it's much more dangerous. And some of the clues here do not point to an angry victim or family member. Quite professional and planned out. Kind of feel like we need to hope they catch the guy so we can find out.

Health care is something i've changed my already 50/50 stance on even more over the last ~decade or so. (even before covid) While forcing all aspects out of a "for profit" position would be costly, and in the short-to-medium likely dangerous. I feel like we need some new 3rd way with it. Health care should not be something that people beyond the individual (working in the industry) level should ever be expected, if not allowed, to make profit on.. and certainly not on a publicly traded corporate or investor level. Maybe something like a for (reasonable) profit trust or something. I've also gone completely 'universal basic coverage'.. at least until costs are brought down. (through education, civil law and other reforms. Also putting a stop to efforts at preventing the government from negotiating prices and such should help too.. combined with an industry wide cost transparency law) I actually see it as not just the ethical and moral thing to do, but the sane and logical one from the standpoint of heading off a single payer or completely socialized nightmare down the road. (one of the many examples of our ruinous current market and economic ideology leading us right into the hands of socialists and leftist in general)

That‘s funny because yesterday a kiwi was going on and on about what a loving wholesome family got destroyed. I guess it wasn’t all that great. Probably should have realized it when the wife was giving interviews mere hours after his final send off.

I think people forget that there have been various atypical terror cells that have been disrupted/infiltrated at various times - not all of them have to be super left/right wing or whatever. When you consider the fake ID and other things, then there is a real possibility this was an action orchestrated by a highly organized and highly private group group rather than just an individual - the messaging of "Deny, Defend, Depose" could be the kind of thing a group uses as their statement.

There have even allegedly been groups (or perhaps just individuals, impossible to know if no one gets caught) who have done stuff like shooting at power substations (they knew exactly where to target - coolant tanks - to inflict maximum damage) and there have been other attempts at sabotaging internet infrastructure in some places in the US and also Europe (and again they knew exactly where to cut).

It could be very possible that a group has formed and has orchestrated this attack and maybe has plans for others. Will be interesting to see if they ever find out anything more about this guy.

It is also kind of strange that the CEO himself didn't have any social media presence (I haven't seen any tweeter account or facebook account pop up or anything)

TMZ: Ex-Bodyguard 'Baffled' by Total Lack of Security ... Wake-Up Call for Other Insurers
A former bodyguard for Brian Thompson, the UnitedHealthcare CEO who was shot and killed in NYC, is in complete disbelief the exec didn't have security when he was murdered.

Philip Klein, whose Texas-based security firm Klein Investigations previously provided bodyguards for Thompson in the 2000s, tells TMZ ... he is "shocked and baffled" to see the high-profile CEO didn't have a "detail" (at least 10 security guards) with him while out and about in Manhattan -- given the malevolence the insurance industry often faces.

Interesting that he had a bodyguard ages ago - the bodyguard says he probably didn't have one anymore due to personal preference.

I like the suggestion made here earlier that they turn on the phone and it just displays Goatse.
