It kind of strikes me as Andy's playing into the guilt his parents might feel over Mike, and the car accident. I've heard Andy make mention of how this will make his parents look, how people will talk about them... And he's right. Without the whole picture, you'll assume his parents are terrible people. To me, I think they're just trying to keep him from annoying anyone else.
I'm listening to the
@Banquet Meal calls, and Tom immediately jumps to getting Andy back to Tonawanda by Greyhound. If the Ditch parents were terrible, I'd expect them to fully embrace the, "fuck that rotten asshole, we hate him!" But he's still trying to care.
I think they still want to hope that, somehow, if they just give in, just a little, he'll live separately from them, and that's good enough. If he's away, he can't eat all of the cinnamon rolls, at least. It's really sad, in my opinion.
