this is why i always try to learn how to repair older things rather than throw them away and buy new stuff. because odds are all that old stuff needs to work again is some grease or a belt or a fuse but things now either just plain cannot be repaired or need far more than what its worth.
I have a twenty-year-old Kenmore set. The only things that have needed to be replaced were the control timer on the washing machine seven years ago, and the heating coils on the dryer. The latter having given out a year after I installed it, owing to the fact that it was shitty third-party part from China. But I got another and installed that one. However, I've seen three microwaves come and go in the last six years. I really fear the day I have to replace the washer and dryer with some digital electronic abomination that has to connect to the internet for it to function properly.

For real, I kept having problems with controllers getting analog stick drift. People say just buy a new one, or send it in under warranty. I did that for a while and got sick of it, so I actually learned how to take apart the controller and do it myself. It feels good to know something that has been a pain in the ass for years can now be fixed easily without having to spend any more money than I already have.
Absolutely I used to buy all of the broken impact drivers off all the guys at work who didn't wanna fix them for half price and just put new cases on them.
