No, what happens is that your employer "chooses" whichever insurance company is the cheapest for them and then you get to "choose" from the pile of shit they put in front of you. You'll probably say "then go find another job". Easier said than done when you've got a family to feed and can't afford to move around to wherever that one job that pays well enough for the area also has your preferred insurance provider and doesn't even guarantee the cost or plan will be the same or better. Companies pay wildly different amounts for the same health insurance plans.

If you disagree, feel free to go to any of these insurance companies' websites and try to sign up for health insurance. Even if you find one that allows you to sign up for a decent plan, please note down how much you'll be paying each month.

I said it before and I will say it again: Obama is the reason we got Trump. His judges, his bureaucrats, his policies, his comments, his bullshit, and his continued presence in American politics long after he was supposed to ride off into the sunset. It is entirely his fault.

He is the one who got the media to sit in daddy's lap, drink his chocolate milk, and never question a single fucking thing that he did. He is the one who made sure that anyone who did question him was a racist, a bigot, a bitter clinger, and the dumbest part is that this could all be forgiven if he could take a joke - but he can't. Any criticism or mockery is verboten. At the end of the day, Obama is a man who takes himself too fucking seriously. Everything about him is a carefully crafted image that now plays as a farce. He enjoyed the obsequious flattery of historians, scientists, journalists, authors, diplomats, Hollywood, mass media, and turtles all the way down. He could have rested on his laurels, but it just wasn't enough for him. Now the end result is his legacy coming undone because of some trash-talking New Yorker with a bad spray tan.

The funny thing is, I distinctly remember some of the small companies around me being self-insured 20 years ago. They'd put up money and have one of the insurers administer the plan since they already had the infrastructure in place to handle the paperwork.

Given those same companies no longer do that, I'm guessing the ACA fucked that somehow (whether due to unsustainable costs or bureaucracy).
