Delisting - Dark trends

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm on about. I like GOG precisely because it strips the DRM bullshit out of the equation. I also agree publishers have the right to pull their games, I just don't respect the way they're going about it. The sega delisting seems to be because they've been watching how Nintendo does it.

Not much of a loss. Now zero money goes from paying customers to those retards at activision-blizzard.

Not nearly as much of a tragedy compared to how Nu-bioware delisted the original version of Mass Effect 3 with a co-op horde mode and replaced it with their shitty remaster of ME1 in the "legendary edition" back in 2021. Citing an entire gamemode from the original version with servers still online today as "unnecessary". May as well remove ME2 with that "logic".

I dont know why people didnt rake nu-bioware over the coals for that but instead over some no name dragon age game, a series that hasnt been good since Origins in 2007. Seems to be the only thing those vocal mouth breathers care about because all the ME fans jumped ship after andromeda.

Renting games is a shit proposition to me.
This isn't renting, its just being delisted. If you have it bought already you can still download it again and play it, just no new sales.

Its shitty, but has been happening for over a decade now. Crysis 2 got delisted on steam when Origin came out, although I think its back after so many years away. I bought it and could still download and play it with steam after it was delisted.

Online games are the rented ones, well potentially. Maybe your thinking of The Crew on ubisoft, which is actually gone and no one can play it at all.

BRING IT BACK

I believe they're in the process of bringing this, War and Fall of Cybertron as well as Rise of the Dark Spark. There's been multiple relistings on Xbox and Steam, but they just haven't been activated again yet.
Kinda funny how the keys are listed on third-party sites at +$1000. I had Devastation too but refunded it cause I imagined it was another cheap Platinum game, even at the time realizing the combos were innovative and it was condensed and arcade in nature.

Never looked at the Cybertron games but look kino as shit

They're in talks to also bring Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2, Deadpool and one of the old Activision Spider-Man games (either Dimensions or Web of Shadows) as well. So.. Keep an eye out for an announcement in the next year or so. I think they need a bit to get the licensing shit back. You can tell Marvel is desperate for money by bringing the MvC Collection into the store again.

I mean that's how GOG gets them to come out and play in the first place. Without that, there's no incentive.
I still want Randy Dickface to put Duke3D back on GOG, it's where it belongs.

It's just another excuse to pirate. If I am willing to buy it but no longer can then there are other avenues I can go down that doesn't result in the company getting my money.

The whole idea of GOG was profiting off of abandonware.

I know that the splintering of streaming caused a resurgence in piracy, but I don't know if zoomers are even aware of what Home of the Underdogs was (in its original, uncucked form). At least its spinoff Macintosh Garden is alive and well.

It's true, Nintendo could avoid a lot of piracy if they'd just stop drip feeding their backlog.
There is genuinely zero reason (besides licensing where its even still relevant) for Nintendo to not have every single game pre-N64 or even pre-Gamecube available on their store. They are fucking roms that are widely available that run just fine on damn near any modern device, and you can't convince me Nintendo of all companies doesn't have the means to get near flawless emulators working on their hardware.

When it comes to Nintendrones, Nintendo could release a 1 time pass costing $100 for access to every game on a particular system, AND charge this for each system, and they would fucking print money for it. Nintendo is living proof that you can be a pack of honest to God mongoloid retards of the highest caliber and SOMEHOW still be massively successful in Clown World.

When they were just dumping shit in dosbox I might have agreed with you, but since the old days they have taken a stand on getting games running on newer hardware.
Like yeah, you can track down a bunch of user fixes if you like, but they try to package the game so it "just works".

Today's racing games as a whole are very guilty of delistings, because either car makers are stingy in terms of how long a car can be licensed, or the developers chose to get shorter car licensing deals to save money. The older Forza games (i.e. Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7) were delisted after 4 years, and even though Forza Horizon 4 got longer licensing deals, it will be delisted this month, 6 years after it's release.

And while the Forza games are still playable post-delisting, other racing games that get delisted have reduced functionality, and we saw in the biggest extreme that The Crew 1 was shut down and is no longer playable. I don't know what the current progress is about the 3rd party-server/offline modding attempts for that game. Gran Turismo 5 was mostly playable after its server shut down, but Gran Turismo 6 had more features removed after its server shutdown, and Gran Turismo Sport has numerous features that are no longer available after its server shut down, i.e. the mileage store (so the exclusive cars from it are no longer obtainable), and you can't even change your car's color and wheels anymore, because it was tied to the livery editor feature that is no longer available, and you can no longer use any save liveries you had beforehand.
