its going to be about as bad and shallow as GTA V was if im being perfectly honest, theres a segement of people who enjoy linear games and I won't take it away from them, I just prefer games like Elder Scrolls that let me do whatever the fuck I want, a game being woke is usually secondary to me unless its particularly egregious

I came to post basically this. I still play vidya but Gamergate was cringe back in the day and the same mindset is still cringe. Like when all the pissbabies threw a fit about Starfield having a pronouns toggle. They spent weeks absolutely seething about it, I clicked male and kept moving.
That being said, I don't remotely care about woke shit in GTA. There have been gay characters throughout the series, including Trevor, which I didn't see anyone crying about. Dude was a meth addicted bisexual cannibal with severe mommy issues and it was hilarious to play as him

GTA IV and GTA V were kinda proto woke so GTA VI will probably be ultra woke

GTAIV wasn’t really woke aside from a few jabs at the Republicans in a mid-00s antiwar sense, while the woke thing that stuck out the most about GTA V were the ‘illegals aren’t the bad guys here!’ side missions, though it balances it out by poking fun at liberals in the tv programming.

On the other hand I think RDRII shows the most woke in terms of Arthur somehow being race-blind and also a silent feminist, but that shows up again only in the side missions/encounters, albeit in more of them.

Arthur virtue signals about feminism and anti racism in the game, the Indians are portrayed as noble savages while the US Army is portrayed as evil genociders, The KKK is in the game just to be shit on even though they only reformed in the 20's, Sadie Adler, None of the non white gang members are ever portrayed in an unsympathetic light and so on and so on...

So if there is woke, while I think it’s an strengthening undercurrent that would bubble to the surface with no fratbro devs stopping it, ironically this may be a case where TakeTwo and their greed could put a lid down on the excess. I mean, the GTA Online missions are not really woke right?

Why are people more accepting of it? Because there isn't any AGENDA or black-washing of white people. The story is developed organically, without state/NGO intervention, thus it doesn't proselytize.

I sympathize with your argument here, and it's easy to forget now that so much time has passed and the window has shifted. but San Andreas is very much a part of the cultural movement from the 90s to glamorize the culture of poor black criminals and portray them as sympathetic or even aspirational characters with understandable flaws, who are just trying to survive in a world set against them. this has been the general thrust of the GTA franchise since 3, starting mainly with the Italian mafia. but while GTA3 and Vice City feature protags that are unapologetic criminals, San Andreas is set up as a redemption story, whose protagonist's actions are unfortunate but made necessary by the cruelty of the world he's been thrust into. CJ has a good heart, he's just tragically forced to kill hundreds of people because, uh, life's hard out here on the streets. it may not be "woke" by today's standards but it very enthusiastically parrots the cultural propaganda of its era.
