I can understand both Sam and Jet's argument on this. I lean more towards Sam's view that fish voting on eliminations is generally to the detriment of the show in that it leads too much to "friendship tank" and them being prone to removing antagonistic but entertaining contestants.

However, Jet still has a point that there is a benefit to maintaining the social aspect of the game and also enabling the fish to have something to strategise about and have agency over during down-time. For example, even though it was unpopular amongst the viewers I see that Binx's scheming to get everyone to vote Simbal out required some nous and seems reasonable gameplay within a reality show.

Perhaps one way to strike a balance would be to make elimination votes only between the two fish with the fewest website endorsements. That way production can emphasise to the fish that the primary goal is to be engaging for the audience (which doesn't necessarily require being chummy with all the other fish). It should mean that typically only nontent fish will be up for elimination, and relegate having alliances to merely being a potential safety net and lesser focus (while not killing it entirely).

If this were to be enacted, production would have to keep endorsement numbers hidden from the fish and only announce the bottom two relatively soon before any vote. Elimination votes should also be used sparingly for whenever production really needs to thin out the numbers for some reason. Leave the rest to either people quitting or the result of challenges.

Sam has really fucked opinions about what is good and bad at times and this insistence upon the first week of S2 being bad is a really good example of it. S2 started off at a sprint compared to S1 which had basically nothing going on for the first week aside from the Simmons stuff percolating up maybe day 6-7. If he said the second week I would understand because the house was sorting the social dynamics back out after losing 4 fish in quick succession but week 1 is total nonsense to hate. It took nearly 3 episodes to grind through that segment of the show compared to a similar run time on S1's episodes having it already on day 20.

You're wrong, he said multiple times the first week was a problem with the fish, not producing the show because of the basement floods or trees getting knocked down outside during the day 1 storm. He went on this same rant before during the 2.5 announcement and we had the same exact bit of confusion. He didn't have 2.5 or S3 to benchmark against either, he was comparing it to S1 alone which made the statement even more insane.
