The shooter is still at large and the FBI is assisting in the search.

You gotta do your homework, but it's not a zero percent probability that gun or silencer entered the black market via a local gun buyback program or evidence locker and there potentially is no paper trail.

The simplest answer is usually the right one.

Spoiler: Suppressor sperging

It probably wasn't a form 1 (manufactured by a licensed suppressor maker) suppressor. It lacked a Neilson device, so it was either a form 1 rifle suppressor or a form 4 (homemade). The most common form 4 suppressors are made from fuel filters or "solvent traps." These items can be readily ordered from Amazon, Ebay, Wish, AliExpress, etc. and most even include a baffle system. There is no process or record keeping involved with these items because they're not legally recognized as suppressors and aren't functional as such out of the box. After 15 minutes of 2/10 skilled labor with a drill, you turn your $20 untraceable solvent trap into a totally functional suppressor that lacks a Neilson device.

These are almost always aluminum, and from the security video, I'm guessing his was aluminum too. A 6+ inch steel suppressor on the end of a pistol is extremely noticeable and you would not be swinging it around with 1 hand comfortably. The weight distribution gets pushed way beyond the shooter's hand and creates control issues. There's a very small chance he had a form 1 suppressor made out of titanium, but the lack of Neilson device reduces the likelihood of that. It's not impossible, just less probable.

The only 2 possibilities in my mind about the source of the suppressor.
1- An unregistered form 4 homemade suppressor made from a cheap and widely available fuel filter or solvent trap kit. ($20 + shipping)
2- A form 1 titanium rifle suppressor. ($1500+, $200 paperwork, waiting period, papertrail, fingerprint and biometric data submission, federal jurisdiction, etc.)

In my experience, the kind of people that are buying titanium rifle cans from registered dealers are also the type of people that know rifle suppressors cause 95% of pistols to not function correctly without a Neilson booster. The kid was clearly somewhat experienced with pistols. He understands remedial action and exactly what to do during a malfunction, and he didn't really hesitate to do so when needed. That only comes from doing malfunction training. That's usually only mandatory for military/LEO work, but anyone can learn it and a lot of civilian instructors will teach it to intermediate and advanced students. The shooter was a "gun guy" to some degree and probably trained in a professional environment, but his lack of suppressor knowledge makes me believe he lives/trains in a state where suppressors aren't legal. Suppressor knowledge amongst "gun guys" tends to be regional, so a lot of people living in suppressor illegal states often know little-to-nothing about them.



8 states + D.C. ban suppressor ownership. Half of those states are in New England, including the state where the shooting took place.

My educated guesses.
1- Shooter lives within 200 miles of the shooting, in a state where suppressor ownership is banned.
2- He trains with pistols at least a couple times a year and has received instruction from a competent professional.
3- He ordered an aluminum solvent trap recently. 50% chance it was from an ad on social media.
4- He ordered a threaded barrel recently, likely for a common handgun.
5- He possibly ordered a drill bit recently. Likely sized around 0.390"-0.420".
6- He bought all this shit with cards tied to his bank accounts.
7- Probably doesn't have fingerprints or biometrics on file at the ATF due to lack of exposure to NFA devices.
8- He probably doesn't have criminal record, and if he does, it's all minor shit.

I say this because the level of detail, planning, patience and everything else with literally zero fuckups can only really mean that this guy wasn't personally emotionally invested in this (maybe he agreed with the "politics" of it though on a personal level). Someone asked or paid him to drop those bullets with those words written on them. Just look at his total lack of reaction after the shooting, the way he is walking methodically through all CCTV shots, ditching his phone and everything else that is known so far. On the videos I've seen of him on the ebike after the shooting there is absolutely zero urgency in his actions.

I disagree. I think it is possible that he was emotionally invested but controlled himself. Some people are able to do it and pull off that sort of detachment to get things going.
