Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Nyaa doesn't even have subbed versions of Webdiver and Tetsujin FX. At the same time, it does have the only subs for Albegas and God Sigma on the internet, and soon it will have ARR-free Groizer X, so it is necessary and I'm willing to torrent for those things. I'm slowly torrenting all the shows I watch and rewatch so I have them on hand in the event they get wiped from YT and all the pirate sites go down, but I wouldn't torrent a brand new anime I've never seen unless it was the only option.
Nyaa is a Japanese piracy site which is why I go there. Animetosho and couple other sites are spinoffs of nyaa and have less material. I found 9anime to be very convenient till it was hit but even then streaming sites have some problems in that the upload sites they use to stream from are infected.

I haven't read manga in years but decided to see if anything interesting has come out. Have all the manga sites been infested with shitty Chinese webtoons with poor translations? Is there some Chinese propaganda ministry putting these things out cause they all seem to have the same plot? Some weak guy decides to cultivate his power until he becomes super strong, then he knocks around the bullies that used to pick on him, then he's rolling in bitches and starts marrying everyone.

Cultivation is Isekai for Chinks/Gooks. It's just really popular and it's what the natives crave. It's probably less existentially shitty than isekai (cultivation requires you to give yourself cheat powers with hard work and understanding the world, rather than isekai usually being about being reborn in "the right place" rather than Japanese young adult rat-race and you're given cheat powers for participating) but because chinks/gooks are terrible ant people it's somehow less creative and more formulaic than isekai which is impressive in it's own way.

I also find it really odd that the Chink government pushes so hard for it. Yeah, it's nondenominational in practice but it's got firm roots in all the religion and philosophies the CCP actively suppresses.

Been watching through Fate Zero again, more on the backburner, just taking it slow. No matter how much time passes, I always come back to it. Some people love it, some hate it, I'm in the former. Really it helps that it isn't adapting a VN, it can go wild. It also gives Saber some development that carries over in to the UBW anime where she's less uptight

Another Aquarion trailer came out. Important things to note are that there will be pop-art flashes for the attack names and parts of the combination, the main Aquarion is a recolour of the original Aquarion, the OP is a remix of Sousei no Aquarion, and the orgasm gattai will remain, albeit heavily toned down. This is probably cheap nostalgia-pandering, but hopefully this ends up being what connects Logos and the original duology while setting the stage for more Aquarions, sort of like Turn A.

I picked up Princess Tutu again after maybe 6 years in order to really watch the entire show and I loved it. Now it makes me want to rewatch Utena. I feel that after all of those years I will like it more and understand more of the symbolism.
You can dislike Adolescence, but damn, this scene is so beautiful.

I once met a chink super upset about Japanese manga because he believed it was all stolen since their language was adapted from the Chinese

It really peeves me off the Internet took the wrong things away from Utena. Like everyone understands it's a beautiful show, but all they want to talk about is how "~qweer~" it is when there's nothing beautiful about "~qweer~" fite me fags.

I enjoy torturing myself every week by keeping up on Kengan Omega. It went from a pretty decent fighting manga to an absolute trainwreck. From a plot that has no idea where it's going and neither the writer, nor artist caring anymore. It's slowly transformed into a parody of what it originally started out as.

I feel sorry for shows like Utena and Sailor Moon. Back during the Clinton and Bush eras, they legitimately helped some gays and lesbians come to terms with themselves. It's a real shame it was one of the many things the queers latched onto and turned into yet another platform for their vanity.

I read for the sunk cost fallacy & shitposting at this point.

So I just learned multiple NIS America titles are going out-of-print, and it didn't tell anyone except some retailers who had to open up about it to customers. Fucking niggers. I guess NIS is just losing a lot of money or something, can't seem to compete.

As a zoomer with better taste than my peers (not a high bar) this actually is shocking to me. I've put the Gundam Franchise in the 'too hard' pile for a long time, maybe it's time I figure out where to start.
Gundam, like everything Japanese, likes to retread the same ground, formula, and tropes - over and over again - but in its long history it has produced some good entries.

The heart of the franchise that I think captivated people is that the show is always asking: 'what is the role and obligation of obviously superior people?' And it will address it in different ways in each series, with the opposing factions representing the arguments and counter-arguments (with that typical 'no one is evil just because' + 'i have mixed feelings about this' nuance that the Nips always bring to the table.)

I'm not huge on Gundam, but I have excellent taste, and my brain is very very enormous, so I would recommend:

Turn A Gundam: the moon people want to (re)colonize Earth, and the show is mostly about trying to diplomatically solve a military occupation of the people who never left Earth - before it turns into a violent clusterfuck. Mostly a political drama.

Any of the OGs that started the franchise: skip the first series if you have low tolerance for old animation. These are the 'space people are better than earth people, and want freedom/dominion, so they rebel. What is moral?' Kind of stuff.

Iron-Blooded Orphans - a mercenary outfit seduces kids to pilot their mechs. they use an invasive surgery for faster piloting that tends to cripple said children. the kids eventually take over the merc outfit and become their own thing in the solar system. This one is newer, a little more straight forward, a bit more flashy and stupid, and has more variety in vehicle design. A personal favourite, all though it's not very deep. Child Soldier Shonen.

War in the Pocket: takes place on an orbital colony. A kind of 'the fighting has finally come to your city, and it's not as cool as you thought it would be' story. Told through the eyes of a kid who's about to get disillusioned. Slice of Life: Warzone Edition
