Is soup a food or a drink?

Solution
"Soup" comes from the latin "suppare" which means to soak. It exists for bread to be dipped in. That's why it's served with bread. This is like asking if ketchup is a food or a drink.
Boba has those weird balls in it though. You could argue the tea is the soup stock.
I have definitely just had boba for lunch before.
I've never really considered balls of tapioca to be food before. It's more like a food ingredient.

Also, soup is a food because it doesn't satisfy thirst and is regularly consumed alongside an accompanying drink. Look at say, Miso soup, it's just a salty liquid with some tofu and green onions in it. You can drink it yet it's regularly served with green tea as a drink.

This is the kind of solid argument I was looking for.

Pulpy milk is a food. We call it cheese.
Even frozen water is considered a food, like flavored shaved ice, despite being almost entirely water. So it's a drink if you can drink it and its primary purpose is hydration. Cheese does not meet that criteria.
