2024 Syrian opposition offensives - The first Syrian rebel offensive against Government forces since March 2020

Man, that happened so fast. What changed exactly for the rebel to be able to blitzkrieg like this? I know Hezbollah's leadership was liquidated, Russia is busy with their own quagmire, and top of that they have Turkey's support. But it's so sudden and efficient it begs the question how they got kicked back behind the M4 highway all those years ago. What the fuck was Assad even doing during that time, lmao.

There is still half the country under American control, this civil war has an act two.
The incoming American President is a deal maker. Al-Jolani looks like a guy who wants to cut deals, and that is someone the Americans will work with. The FSA are a bunch of losers who will fold anyway and even the USA knows this. Jolani is the future ruler of Syria and its lunacy to assume otherwise at this point.

Rebels in Damascus' airport. There are people running away and even starting to panic toward the end of the video, probably just missed the last flight out to Latakia.

Also, on LiveUA all gov't territories outside of the coast are no longer being shown in SAA red, but rather the gray which indicates that there's a power vacuum.
I can taste the fear in this video, I hope for the innocents sake it's a tidy transition but I know better than to expect one.
Official recognition soon? FSA might be back from the dead but I don't see them pulling any diplomatic miracles unless the US state department slobbers over ex-AQs like our resident monarchist.

Dunno how much Trump is going to want to help out al Qaeda. Maybe if Erdogan asks real nice.

The BBC's live blog reports that Assad has in fact fled Damascus, citing Reuters which in turn is citing 'two senior Syrian officials', and that furthermore the SAA is disbanding with the regime they serve having fallen. (Archive)
It’s definitely Bashover but is that really the palace? It looks like any other shitty street in any third-world shit hole.
Honestly, if that's what his capital still looks like after 13 fucking years, it's no wonder Assad couldn't retain any popular support here at the end. I expect we'll be seeing videos similar to that time HTS took a stroll in the Aleppo gov't palace soon enough.

I found it interesting that in Trump's official statement, he calls HTS 'opposition fighters' and not terrorists. I can't really imagine Mr. 'BTFOing Ted Cruz With New York Values' ever forgiving an AQ emir for 9/11, even if the latter claims he's a good guy now. But I think there is a non-zero chance that he might be willing to settle into the same sort of coldly hostile peace Israel likely expects with Al-Jolani if it means he can finally get US forces & money out of Syria after his generals backstabbed him on that last time, especially since there's now really no reason to keep any of them in there (well, so long as Al-Jolani is willing to deal over the oil & gas, which he probably is because HTS will need outside money if it hopes to govern effectively). Ironically, this would also come right after the al-Tanf rebels just proved themselves to be literally the first good investment America has made in Syria this entire time; probably those guys will just melt away or fall in with the Southern Front/FSA after January 20 2025.
