Normally I would be extremely pissed off with them corrupting this kind of mid-century atmosphere (outside of Tf2) but the game is so poorly made that I don't really give a shit.

the main creator of the game told people to cut it out with harassing artists for these things and he actually got chewed out by twiterites for this. i don't like that the game is basically just a slightly interactive animation and i also dislike the suffering porn plot. anya is a cute character in a horrible situation but she's not real, who gives a fuck if someone draws her with huge knockers.

I don't hate the aesthetics they chose for these games. But rather the execution of it. Taking for example the game listed earlier in the thread. .45 parabellum bloodhound. I don't hate the idea behind the game. I rather enjoyed Parasite Eve and wouldn't mind playing a spiritual successor to it. But many are so anachronistic. If your going to implement this, one should limit themselves to the hardware of the time. Of course laziness is the answer. Why limit your tri-count and texture size, then spend hours making and texturing a model that could feasibly run on a Sega Saturn when you can go into an asset store and grab a filter that does half the work for you. For a few examples a good friend of mine has had a side hobby for the last 12 years designing a game targeting the Dreamcast. A semi-survival horror adventure game. Getting an x41 to run kalistiOS for a devkit was a pain initially. It's evolved into him programming his own engine for him to achieve what he wants to see implemented in the game. That's the kind of effort I would want to see in these sloporamas. Then again it wouldn't be slop at that point. At best impressively autistic slop.
I enjoy the quality of early 3D rendering. Sure I could spin up blender and take a quarter of the time making a scene. But it doesn't look or feel correct. So I'll hop on my g3 iMac, run lightwave 3D and torture myself for a few hours. Telling myself one day I'll make that stupid point and click adventure game and have some desperate theater kids act out scenes for me. As long as it all fits on a single CD or five, lol. All of this to say limitation breeds creativity.
Of course the additional problem is that many are obsessively horny idiots shoving their perverted ideas into the game. Ruining the presentation entirely. It's all so tiresome.. this is a fad frankly, and will pass with time. Which makes me wonder what lazy """"developers"""" will attach themselves to next.

Normal men and women should get to keep the late PS2 and early PS3/Xbox 360 graphics aesthetic for their own. So like 2005 to 2010. Gaming in the Late Bush/Early Obama Years. I don't really have a way to explain it but there's a unique aesthetic with the early HD graphics and attempts at really pushing the hardware of the PS2 and the experimentation of early PS3/Xbox 360 graphics. It's in between the low poly PS1 graphics before 'graphics getting better' really began to plateau past the late PS3/Xbox 360 era and by the PS4 era I think graphics stagnated and all look kind of the same. There's like a genuinely unique aesthetic, even in games like Persona 3 and 4 I just can't put an exact finger on it.

Sure this was also the era of modern military shooters set in brown/gray deserts but even they had their charm and it really wasn't that bad in retrospect. It made sense with the zeitgeist at the time. In Burgerstan the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan were still fresh in the minds of people from 2005 to 2010. I'd rather have MMS where you shoot durka-durkas with a color palette of a British chippy takeout meal instead of gaudy troonslop graphics.

Also for Mouthwashing, honest opinion: It's an alright game but it's not worth $10. Only get it on sale for less than $10.

It's basically just a playable 7/10 psychological horror film because I beat it in a little under 2 hours and doesn't have any replayability at all. Not even different endings which with this kind of game you'd think would be 'standard' already given those kinds of games like Walking Sims and VNs have tons of different endings and routes as part of the fun. Not even the collectibles were worth even digging into and usually for short ass games like these I'd try to get all achievements but didn't feel like it.

I can definitely sense a lot of astroturfing by troon video essayists similar to Signalis but y'know a slow year for vidya right now.

imo it's a good experience if you play it totally blind and only once, like me but that's the same for literally any narrative based game with pretty much zero alternative routes or ending and then it gets viral where if you don't try to on purposely block out the algorithm you'll get spoilered anyways

I think I read the entirety of Berserk, mostly because I genuinely liked it and its main character Guts. That’s, I think, one thing that I didn’t feel ashamed reading.
HunterxHunter is pretty good and has a similar problem to Berserk in that the author has/had massive health issues that cause it to go on hiatus pretty much constantly.

I wouldn't have anything against the piss filter of early X360/PS3 games, but it was at one point so omnipresent I got sick of it. Better than troonslop, yet still.
I like "early photorealism" of 2002-2006 PS2/Xbox games. Sure, textures still looked like shit and everything in PC ports looked like made out of cardboard, but in some aspects it aged surprisingly respectfully (see: GTA VC, Gran Turismo 4)
