GPUs & CPUs & Enthusiast hardware: Questions, Discussion and fanboy slap-fights - Nvidia & AMD & Intel - Separe but Equal. Intel rides in the back of the bus.

Welp, FedEx pulled its usual bullshit and barely attempted to deliver my GPU today and left an attempted delivery slip on my door. I've rerouted it to a pick-up location (something I should've done at the beginning) so the driver will actually be forced to drop it off properly and I can refuse it if anything screwy happened to it between being given to FedEx by the retailer and said pick-up.

That said everything's still going according to plan.

Interesting. China-only "RTX 4010"
I saw the video in recommended, didn't click. Thanks for forcing me to watch it. I saw another video from this guy so I guess I'll bookmark the channel.

I hope AMD makes a 75W 8400/8500 XT 8GB. The Navi 44 die *could* bring 7700 XT performance at low power in the 8600 XT.

Just out of curiosity, any recommendations for keyboards?

My current one's a 15 year old $20 thing, and some of the keys are on the way out.
I'm ideally after a wired USB-A full-size keyboard, RGB's not important, and something under $125.

Had a Logitech G213 Prodigy RGB recommended, which I'm really considering.
Fujitsu Realforce or HHKB. Take the Toprepill. You'll pay closer to $200 but it's the best keyboard I've ever used and it's not even close.

Greedy bastards wouldn't reduce GTX 4070 pricetag during Black Friday, so I wasn't able to snatch one this year.

Okay so, in regards to VRAM clock speed, I managed to set my max VRAM clock speed to 2250 (its an ASUS 6750XT) in LACT, but I have noticed that the VRAM power state is maxed at 1124MHz and I can't for the life of me set it up higher. Is this normal or not?

You better be prepared for higher prices because the 4070 will be discontinued soon.

Why would they? Nvidia has tapered their production in line with stock and expected demand. They don't need to offload GPUs like AMD does.

Bet. With the 5070 coming in 2025 right?

I like his channel, there's not many others covering what he does. And he's just some dude going through medical school so his release schedule have been all over the place over the years.

Hey what's the max bandwith for a M.2 E-key (for wifi/bluetooth modules)?

I was looking what to use the port for and came across a 2.5G ethernet adapter, but i wasn't sure if it gets to that speed. and if it does, if i have a pcie x4 slot would it handle more then one nvme ssd at max speed? what's the max number of sata ports for a pcie x1 to sata adaptor, for ssds or for hdds?

Alright, I've officially built my PC. Construction wasn't too bad and I didn't fuck up the CPU installation like some people did. The only issue I have is that the PC case I picked up is actually too small for the space it was originally going to be in. It does fit on another part of the desk but all of the guts are hidden by the wall.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have Windows 11 up and running on it with the help of Microsoft's installation media creator program and my laptop coming with Windows. The only downside is that I still need an activation key for it.

Last time I checked you really have to look hard for discounted new GPUs, I got lucky getting my MSI 4070 Ti Super Gaming Slim for just a little under MSRP.

If you're not using your laptop, steal the key from that. Microsoft desperately wants you to get on Win11 and unless things have changed you can just feed it vendor specific OEM keys without a problem. I've been re-using a fucking Dell Win7Pro key from an i5 2400 Optiplex, right now it's being used on a R7 5800X system. Had to activate by phone during one install(I don't want some online Microsoft Sign-In) but that's it.

I was unable to move my OEM key from one desktop to another after it was replaced under warranty. I bought the OEM key myself, so Microsoft told me to eat a dick and buy another.

The spec says E-key is x2 so you're fine for 2.5Gb unless you have PCIe Gen1 and the card or motherboard only provides a single lane.

And the sharing among PCIe is always motherboard specific so you'll need to see what they say. Sometimes it's isolated, sometimes it's if you use Slot X then Slot Y is not x4 but only x2.

You can use all the SATA drives in the world on a single x1 adapter. It will just be slow. Look up the bandwidth/PCIe gen for the lower of the card or the MB and that's what you have to work with.
(Roughly Gen 1: 2.5Gbit, 2: 5 Gbit, 3: 8Gbit, 4: 16Gbit)

Or, just use one of the numerous KMS activation tools out there, depending on ones concern with MS licensing. Personally I have enough licenses but I use VMs and don't want to deal with activating them and then moving the license, so I just run a KMS server on my network. (True, MS may not like licensing VMs but they're technically paid for.)

Unfortunately some things have changed, newer laptops tend to use keyless digital licenses and my ASUS laptop has that kind of license.

Edit: I forgot to mention I’m looking for places where I could just buy an OEM key, I rather not muck around with activators since this is a new device.

There's nothing in BackupProductKeyDefault in regedit or a place like that?

It's not keyless, the key is pinned to your BIOS. You can still read it with external tools like this. Bear in mind that Winblows will claim that it's a virus.

I got mine from a place called "Microsoftkeys(dot)net" seems to work fine.

Edit: Yes, that was for a nice normal physical system I built for a friend.
