Yea that sucks, but it's cope to think that if America didn't get involved things would be "totally chill" today. The reality is self governance isn't really in the cards for island nations who aren't militarily equipped enough to defend themselves from colonization or who don't have a caucus of nearby nations they can ally themselves with to retain independence. Asia and Europe get to get away with this because they are insulated in their greater continental regions where they're able to foster alliances (Or just being in the arctic tundra where there's basically no reason to invade). Hawaii on the other hand is alone in the middle of the ocean, while at the same time being conveniently off the coast of America, so it would be a ridiculous assumption to think that if America didn't pull them in Russia and China would just be down to leave them alone.

I'm not that delusional, and neither were the leaders of the Kingdom of Hawaii. They were desperately trying to get a protectorate from first the UK and then Japan. If you can't stay fully independent, then at least get a colonial ruler that will respect most previous property and social arrangements and not ban both school instruction and legal proceedings in your native tongue. The monarchy knew what was going to happen if France or the US colonized.

That said, the first missionaries came from New England and their descendants dominated the economy of the Kingdom, so it was fait accompli. If British Methodists were first, likely things would be very different and we would have followed the path of Fiji or Tonga. Not rich, but not a permanent minority who lost their language and culture.

Now all he has to deal with is the legal onslaught of civil cases from the niggers family that will be either funded by state backed activists or just done pro bono. These will continue indefinitely until Penny is financially destitute or they meet the 51% likelihood standard required to win a civil case.

The dude might be out of jail, but his life is still fucked. He will spend years fighting against these people, both in the courtroom and in public. The Judge rather clearly pissed the jury off. What he did should bring disciplinary action. If New York still had rule of law and a functioning court system.

My personal head canon is the jury was never going to convict him. Even the double masker knew he wasn't guilty. The deliberation was never about whether or not Daniel Penny was guilty, but rather whether or not they're a hung jury or give a not guilty verdict. Daniel clearly wasn't guilty but some of the jurors were cowards and didn't want to get attacked and mobbed by a gaggle of Niggers. They tried to give a hung jury as a soft appeasement. The judge fucking around gave them absolutely no choice but to return with a Not Guilty verdict. That's why it came back so quickly.

He's doing the Ko'olau Summit Trail, which is the hardest trail on Oahu which regularly has people disappear and never return from.
Even if he is a commie, for sure he ain't soft, and regularly plans things out and thinks well on his feet (in this hike quite literally).
This is a guy that really likes dangerous challenges.

Edit: The amount of people who've done the whole thing can be counted on two hands. While I doubt he did the whole thing, even a partial hike is impressive.

While SCOTUS has upheld it as a plenary power, it has never done so unconditionally. Always trying to caveat its grant of power to the executive branch. There is some serious debate if you get into the weeds of it but the short version is, take it to SCOTUS and bring your A game. Argue that one of those caveats apply and roll the dice.

The question really is if those caveats are just a show to try to look like SCOTUS is not granting a president absolute power in an ability, or real and just untested.

• How will it be funded?
• How will the premiums compare to existing insurance?
• If it only covers 80% of allowed amounts like Medicare does already, how much will "Medigap" coverage cost to cover the remaining 20%?

The biggest issue, as it always was, but nobody wanted to acknowledge, was laid bare and shoved in everyone's face in 2020-2022 like a 2-ply surgical mask.
