The ONLY way voting would work is if they do it Hell's Kitchen style like I said before. Making them each vote for two fish to be eliminated and Sam picking one of those two or throwing a curve ball and eliminating someone else entirely if he doesn't like the voting results. I'm sure there are some fans who would whine that it's unfair if Sam picks someone not voted for, but Gordon Ramsey (among many other reality game show hosts) do this all the time and those are network tv reality game shows, so it can be done on Fishtank no problem. It's understood by the contestants in Hell's Kitchen that Gordon Ramsey will send whoever he wants home regardless and the voting is merely a suggestion to see what the contestants are thinking about each other at the time and making the two people voted for grovel.

Think of it like the first elimination of s3 where Sam pinned it as Ian vs Alex and how much Alex was about to sperg out about it, we could be getting that every elimination. Imagine if Alex had to plead his case to secure his spot in the tank? Or Burt or Simbal for that matter, it would've been very funny. Or think about the Mizzy elimination. Had they made them vote for two fish at that time instead of one it would have been Mizzy and Burt being sent up and they would have to plead their case to Sam. That would be funny enough, now think how funny it would be if after they pleaded their case, Sam tells them both to go back in line and kicks Payton out instead because she wasn't really in the game and Sam felt it's time for her to go. Sure simps will seethe, but they'll get over it, for everyone else fish included, it would've been a great shocking moment. Would've been an actual eventful way for Payton (rather than just saying randomly that she's eliminated. ELIMINATION CHOCOLATE!) to go while protecting the entertaining fish.

With properly placed immunities, some rigging, and a fundamental understanding of what makes a Fish good and who to prioritize during votes I believe elimination based voting could work. Although it’s probably not maintainable towards the latter half of the show.
There is literally no point to voting at any time in Fishtank, just do challenge eliminations. Challenge eliminations incentivize fish to sabotage each other and do things that set Fishtank apart from normal reality shows. Voting eliminations punish contestants who rock the boat as literal decades of Big Brother have taught up, the point of Fishtank is to make the contestants break or fail due to attrition and abuse. Just don't have voting. Jet is 100% retarded for thinking it's of any value whatsoever in Fishtank.

The whole reason Jet wants voting is to give the fish agency. The show has to feel like a game that you win by playing the best. If eliminations are arbitrary, there's no game.

Disregarding the reasons everyone has already brought up about why voting is bad (the most disruptive fish gets voted out), another problem is that the fish on the losing end of the vote have no agency. Mizzy wanted to leave or attain freeloader status as soon as she realized she had no chance to win in a voting game, but was willing to walk nonstop to attain immunity and "Dark Mizzler" only happened when she was lead to believe getting someone to quit would push back the elimination.

What if they run the voting as is, but give all the fish a method for attaining immunity that isn't skill based? For example, stealing and reading a journal without telling the victim that production put them up to it is something that doesn't require skill, only the willingness to be a villain. Stealing clothes/makeup and starting food fights would also work.
There is no game. There isn’t supposed to be a game. It’s fishtank. It’s there for the audience to laugh at the participants. If you want a reality competition show you can go ahead and watch CBS.

At this point fishtank has evolved past the original intention of just fucking with the contestants. While that will continue to remain a core part of fishtank, there are undoubtedly reality tv show elements, character arcs, social dynamics, and a desire for a sense of cohesion within a story. Without these elements fishtank just becomes disjointed points in time where the fish are fucked with.

Hellhouse and friendtank by themselves are disliked. They need to balance each other out. Famous House 1.0 was the best this balance has ever been and it was universally enjoyed. I've heard the excuse of "if you don't like watching contestants be fucked with, go watch big brother," but what makes fishtank special is the combination of traditional reality tv show elements with contestants being fucked with. Challenges like the cell (post season one) are generally disliked because of an overreliance on hellhouse elements. Periods in time like the cleaning leading up to Famous House 2.0 are bad because of the overreliance on friendtank.

It's a parody of reality tv. But a parody still requires elements of the original to mock and build upon.

but she definitely felt “safe” the entire time
She didn't though, she recognized the voting game had already been won a mere three or four days into the show by the Harpies assembling a deathball in the penthouse. All of the season long content makers were at risk, particularly the B3 crew that were all of the top endorsed fish all season. Luke, Burt, Alex and Binx along with Mizzy who was also on the outs.

Voting is retarded because it leads to nontent fish staying and disruptive fish getting voted out.
Payton making it to the final 3 despite being boring as hell is the best example of this. Boring, out of the way fish who added little stayed while people like Simbal who drove tension and drama within the house were voted off. Ass backwards and counter productive.

To be fair, previous seasons have had this issue without vote based eliminations. Josie won season one, TJ won season two. Shinji was a finalist in season two despite not being a content machine. I think that's less of a "voting" issue and more of a "production targeting the most entertaining fish and pushing them off the show in the process" issue. Iirc, Payton was one of the main targets among the Fish before the fishtank reveal because of her lack of caring. That's actually why Ian was eliminated.
