They are both done-done with Berlatsky. I believe, but can’t cite, that their negative view of him is in large part because Prostasia is a nightmare.

While I wouldn't characterize pedophilia as a sexual orientation (I don't think it's incorrect, in the sense that no one actively chooses to be attracted to children) because that terminology could help legitimize it in the public mind, I don't think he's wrong about making it possible for people to admit their problem in order to help keep them from committing harm.

It also would aid in the study of the fundamental causes of pedophilia, which will eventually allow those root causes to be addressed. I like to think that someday it will be possible to not only test for pedophilia, but to treat it before it becomes an issue. That won't be for a long time, but the more it's understood the sooner that time will come.

I've seen the Popehat account around on Twitter for ages, just never really bothered to find out who that is until now. Sounds like although there is a little biog, no one has actually met the guy, so it could be entirely bogus. Stranger things have happened.

This is premised on the naïve I Fucking Love Science (TM) assumption that the desire to rape children is a medical condition with a medical etiology that can be readily identified, and that there is some validated and reliable method for effectively fixing what's wrong with these people. And that it could be deployed on them in a way that was consistent and legally enforceable. And that it would not immediately become a festival of hand-wringing about "pre-crime" and "stigma."

There is a considerable network of beliefs underlying these assumptions that have been repeatedly proven to be false, and we can see those same beliefs underlying things like the gender scam. For people who have gone through the work of debunking the gender scam to just turn around and fall for the same snake oil with regards to "minor attracted persons" is puzzling indeed.

I suppose it is a little bit of I Fucking Love Science, but looking at the general arc of human development I don't think it's unreasonable to think that things that are currently mysteries will eventually be solved. After all, what we're doing - talking on the internet - is something that would have been far more difficult and available to only a select few people fifty years ago. Fifty years before that it would have been the realm of pure theory, fifty years before that it would have been science fiction and fifty years before that it would have been inconceivable. Science, in the long term, takes the unimaginable and makes it commonplace.

For another I Fucking Love Science prediction, I'm going to say that within my lifetime a company will bring a drug for gender dysphoria to market. Not a miracle cure, just something like Xanax or Paxil, where patient can take it and they'll be roughly as accepting of their body as they would be if they trooned out. They'll still do stuff like crossdress in their free time, but their weekly pill will keep about seventy percent of dysphoria patients from feeling the need to take hormones or try to live as the opposite sex.

That's a lofty and inspiring soliloquy about the capacity of the human mind for innovation and invention. But note the absence of any specific proposed treatments for pedos that actually work right now.

I’m convinced some people are fucked up from birth, truly “born this way”. Doesn’t mean I think they should be “excused” if they act on their proclivities but it does give me a bit of empathy for the ones who hate what they are. And there are people with pedophilia who hate what they are and seek help. You can’t treat the pedophilia away, but these patients gladly accept chemical castration combined with high doses of SSRI:s just to not experience sexual arousal anymore. Suicidal ideation, and completed suicides, happen fairly often in this patient group. They live in hell (and to reiterate - I’m talking about the ones who have never acted on their desires).

They've always hated Berlatsky. They presumably defended him because a) they didn't like the fact that misinformation was being spread in their community b) it would look good if they defended someone who openly and vocally hates them c) it gave them an excuse to make fun of him for being a weirdo
