We can back this up. Studies have been done. One that shows women have a strong in-group bias, and men have a strong out-group bias. What this boils down to is, if a couple of strangers are arguing, everyone, man or woman, is more likely to take the woman's side, even if the words and mannerisms are swapped and near-identical. One shows that, all things being equal, when you show test subjects a scenario with a boss talking to an employee, if it's a male employee? No problems here. Same words, same tone, female employee? Many times more likely to survey as "hostile sexism".
Human psychology shows that everyone, male and female, is more likely to believe women, defend women, and treat women with kid-gloves than men. We know this. And yet, modern Western society is full of people screaming that women are under attack, inches away from being chained to stoves again, basically slaves, abused and treated like dogshit as a proud tradition. Really makes one think, how much of that last sentence is true, and how much is mere bullshitting that slots nicely into the demonstrable biases in human nature? After all, if just talking to a woman the way you would a man is "hostile sexism", what does that say about the double standards women want to be treated with?
