Walt Heyer is one of very few public detransitioners that I have genuine respect and admiration for. With a childhood like that, there was simply no way he was going to turn out even remotely normal. I believe he genuinely wants to save other people from going through the same hell that was imposed on him. He's also always been upfront about his own AGP and never tried to reframe himself as an HSTS (Tulip dude and Shape Shifter, I'm looking at you) because the public is generally more forgiving of HSTS.

Some interesting historical facts: boys in Europe were wearing dresses early in life and getting into pants was a rite of passage. They weren't "dressed as girls", gender was working completely different back then. (As well as with other things, like blue for girls/pink for boys, and such.) WW1 marked the cultural shift. This might also explain why grandma made him dresses, as this was essentially cultural norm of her time.

Now that I think about it, this may be a survivorship bias (as in, I didn't read much tranny history pre-XX century), but stories about wearing dresses as kids as some catalyst for identification with women only started appearing after that cultural shift. My guess is that boys wearing dresses was similar to concept people still have to this day, that children are "asexual" until some specific age, and only then they start to mature into men and women.

The catalyst was definitely not Walt wearing dresses, but his father and uncle essentially betraying him, and likely the culture as a whole. I'm not sure how exactly said cultural shift has happened, but boys wearing dresses did become this insanely forbidden taboo and it's morbidly fascinating how many of transvestites started reporting wearing dresses as kids (mixed with a sense of biting a forbidden fruit and/or getting abused for it) as a reason for their fetish or dysphoria after around 1930s-1940s onwards. By morbidly fascinating I mean that it's absolutely repulsive to process troon psychology and try to empathize with thought process of a fetish development. Mere idea about child abuse and how it short-circuits the kid's brain makes me fucking gag.
