This is not a left vs. right issue. Every single American can attest to how overpriced our medical care is, most just accept that dealing with private insurance is a necessary evil to avoid higher taxes and longer wait times.

However, UnitedHealthcare is consistently double the national average for claim denial rates. It has been brought to the national spotlight that they have been using an AI algorithm to automatically deny claims, and they deny claims at a 1-2 ratio (one third of all claims). I'm a free market capitalist and even I can see this as fraud at best (if the patient lives with staggering medical debt), negligent killing for profit at worst.




What UnitedHealthcare did is absolutely appalling, and while I do not condone gunning down business owners in the streets, this man profited on it (and the remaining CEO doubled down on their method of denying care). I too would be upset if this was about boob jobs and phalloplasties, but they are leagues ahead of their competitors on denying care. I don't praise the shooter's methods (whether or not it was Luigi Mangione), but the shooter did the country a real fucking favor. Even if it didn't deter the next in line of succession (yet), it brought this bullshit to the limelight for freemarketer bootstrap theorists like myself.
