CNN —
Crystal Mangum, the former exotic dancer who accused three Duke men’s lacrosse players of rape in 2006, igniting a national firestorm, now says she lied about the encounter.
“I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn’t, and that was wrong. And I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me,” Mangum said on the web show “Let’s Talk with Kat,” hosted by Katerena DePasquale.
The interview took place at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, where Mangum is serving time for a 2013 second-degree murder conviction for stabbing her boyfriend.

“I made up a story that wasn’t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God,” Mangum said.

On the podcast, she said she hopes the three men will forgive her.

“I want them to know that I love them, and they didn’t deserve that, and I hope that they can forgive me,” she said.

Mangum’s admission comes nearly two decades after she said she was raped by former players David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann.

According to the Duke student newspaper, Duke Athletics declined to comment. The university, and the school’s president and head men’s lacrosse coach at the time, did not respond to the student newspaper’s request for comment. There’s been no reported comment from the players.

Party accusations and the fallout

The three were arrested following the woman’s allegations of sexual assault at a party.

The charges brought broad media attention, forced the cancellation of the team’s 2006 season, and cost coach Mike Pressler his job. The district attorney on the case was convicted of criminal contempt and disbarred.

In April 2007, the state’s then-Attorney General Roy Cooper, who is now governor, reviewed the case and exonerated the three men, declaring that the charges never should have been brought against them.

Duke University and the three players reached an undisclosed settlement shortly after the charges were dropped.

The city of Durham settled a lawsuit by the three men in 2014. As part of the settlement, Durham agreed to pay $50,000 to the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission.

This was like a beta version of the infamous A Rape On Campus story from Rolling Stone. By then they had worked out how to make it even more retarded by removing the existence of the victim, not having a actual date and not even bothering to name the perpetrators to just slander all men.

Patient Zero for the feminization of all campuses and beginning of anti-man campus tribunals where you can have your date expelled if you feel guilty the morning after was this trial, even though everyone and his brother (as long as they weren't activists) knew this person was a liar from the get-go and it cost the prosecutor his job for jumping to conclusions and then forging ahead anyway when the forensics came back saying "She's lying".

It was the first time I remember a clear majority of people, not just the usual loudmouths, saying the trial wasn't needed, we KNEW what happened based on the progressive stack locations of victim and abuser, so we can just punish them right now and not have to force the poor poor woman to have to "relive her trauma"

And not a single one of those people will learn anything.

Duke had their own version of that prior to the lax allegations. It was like a one off publication where female students shared completely anonymous stories of them being SA'd on campus by their male classmates at frat parties and such.

Knowing what I now know, I assume a majority of the stories were women experiencing post-nut regret, tho legit assaults for sure happen from time to time. It was also an attempt to slander men, particularly frat bros. I believe it was titled Saturday Night (or had that in the title).

Duke often had sexual scandals back in those days. I can remember a story of a student doing a project where she rated and reviewed all her sexual encounters on campus (with her commenting that the BBC stereotype was not accurate in her experience).

Another was when an undergrad jewess princess wannabe porn star, Belle Knox, went public about taking trips to the west coast on weekends and breaks to film scenes for money to buy fancy bags and shoes.

Shout out to The Group of 88 Duke faculty who tried to bandwagon the whole thing into a racial hysteria then never apologize for getting it so wrong.
This was also the beginning of lying intelligentsia being called out for their lies and then saying “well, we were talking about systemic problems not this particular circumstance so we aren’t wrong and refuse to apologize.” Total scumbags. And I bet most are still at Duke.

Least the victims got cleared back 2007 and got a nice pay day from Duke University. Still this is something no one should have to go through.
No, the good thing that happened from this is Mike Nifong got disbarred for his bullshit tactics. The bad thing is he only served one day behind bars and did a great job of hiding any assets so there wasn't any reason to bother suing him.

The important thing to remember is he's the guy who turned over a ruined law license with the excuse that his dog ate it, and that fact is immortalized on wikipedia, possibly the only worthwhile thing on that site.

I presume they were still kicked out of University and had whatever degrees they were working towards ruined? I hope the undisclosed settlement was more than enough to make up for it.

I wonder if the falsely accused had to sign a keep-shtum with Duke and Durham as part of the settlement. They may also not say anything because they don’t want to give this nightmare any attention. I think that’s what I’d do if I were in their shoes.
