I question how this was possible given Trump winning the state.

Democrats won the governor spot in 2020 and 2016 even though Trump won the state both times on the national level so it's not entirely unprecedented for the state. The local GOP has kind of a RINO reputation at times and really does need its own DeSantis-type figure to put things back together because if they don't the Democrats with the help of liberal transplants from out of state and your average city inhabitant will try to make the place Oregon but on the East Coast.

All the more reason there should be a maximum age requirement to in public office (if term limits don't stick).

The state Republican Party is trying to mitigate the loses that were suffered in this year's election. To get an idea of how bad things are: the Governor candidate lost, the Lieutenant Governor candidate lost, the Attorney General candidate lost and they lost one seat in the House of Representatives which effectively breaks the super majority, Democrats of course are most effected by any action the local legislature takes to weaken the executive branch positions in North Carolina's government.

Plus the Democrat incumbent in state Supreme Court won reelection after more votes for her miraculously appeared.

The problem isn't age itself. I'd rather not just 'settle' for an arbitrary limit that functionally does nothing to stem corruption, and just push for congressional term limits. Generously assuming anyone's opinion on this in public actually matters.

Speaking of Ohio It’s interesting that Dewine hasn’t appointed anyone yet to replace Vance, wonder if there’s any sort of internal struggle going on over who he appoints. Either ways it seems like it’s not nearly as bad as the democrats’ situation there where the two leaders that are being considered to try and win the special election in 2026 are two people who have recently lost (Sherrod Brown and Tim Ryan) and the governor’s position is being considered by the minority leader apparently some lady who has failed to really do anything.
