Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

One thing I will never undestand is how writers always believe that "more flaws = better character", because it makes me think that they want every character to be like Duckman or Bojack Horseman, where as long as the character is more flawed than the general audience, then it means it's a good writing.

In fact, I have no idea where this complaint about female represenation comes from, because I don't think there's ever a better period of time to make a woman protagonist or a girl-centered show that is more than just selling dolls to kids as it is today. My small girl cousins absolutely LOVE Miraculous Ladybug and Sofia the First, and they sometimes don't shut up talking about these shows when I go to their house for lunch or just any family gathering.

Heck, not even those "strong female characters" like Kim Possible or the new Disney Princess are perfect Mary Sues who can do no wrong. Do people really think that we need to make the Powerpuff Girls more flawed? Does Mulan need to make more mistakes? Is Jenny X-J9 a Mary Sue (even though she's a robot, so all things considered, she actually should be one lol)? And those are just the 2000's, don't even get me started on the 10's.
A lot of this stems from 2000s fanfiction writer culture, and by that I mean the uppity, do nothing but slash fic and fan fic faggotry all day by petty teenage girls clingy to their favorite show/movie/franchise and yes, even girls can do this too.

I most of all blame a certain longstanding website that has existed since the birth of the public internet: Welcome to Springhole.net.

Springhole.net is a website that long touted itself on online fanculture, but also has acted as an online writer's guide. That being said, the host, Syera Mikatee, unsurprisingly went total pozzed later down the line, and I'll get to that later. The most blatant thing she ever unloaded onto the world was the Mary Sue Litmus Test. Mary Sues at the time of the 2000s were the biggest grievance about fanfiction then, and they were often tossed around in accusations and flame wars made as overblown as a gas station fire. So much so, Syera went and made the Mary Sue Litmus Test as a means of "settling" things with the fanfic community. It turns out it worked too well. Syera had to go and apologize to everyone who didn't pass the test and to unclog her fat head by draining her ass (she often does this but never has realized how this happens). The fanfiction community in the meantime however, still uses this test.

So later into the 2010s and when eventually everyone has to grow the fuck up, because fanfiction writers don't have any other references of writing and worldbuilding other than their slash fiction of Legloas being a white fudge factory to Aragon and their OC jumping into make it a threesome, that's all they can work off of. And it's because of the teachings of Springhole and Syera Mikatee that horseshit like making girls and women extremely ugly and being landwhales and butterfaces because their real world creators are ugly in both spirit and body as well are an OC insert extension.

inb4 "WELL DIDN'T YOU MAKE FANFICTION" Well I did, I don't extensively slave away at it because that shit you can't make money off of it, it's not your shit to work with, and you eventually grow up and realize you had your fun with it.

They probably believe that their shows are actually cleverly disguised propaganda designed to make young boys into sexist rapists who can't help but rape any women who isn't a fat black troon woman (and obviously any combination of those traits), and to make women into "male gaze magnets" or soemthing maliciously stupid....and yet say their shows are much more culturally enriched because they all claim to be leading the modern civil rights movement. Explains all of their ill-fated attempts of getting every international organization on them to make them into another American sodomy paradise while legalizing the real CSAM and illegalizing the fake CSAM.
Oh right, Syera also made batshit insane ravings about how Japanese shounen manga drives kids to join the military or something. Despite her becoming a goyslop capeshit whore later down the line and lusting for that Loki cock.

Friendly reminder that the co-creator of Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law is also the current president of Cartoon Network since 2022.View attachment 6712104
That explains it all. I never liked Harvey Dirdban Birdman and always thought it was pretty overrated. “LOL WHAT IF SHAGGY GOT ARRESTED FOR MARIJUANA USE HERP A DERP!!!!” Yeah, never heard that one before!

Thank you, even as a teenager, I never saw anything funny in that shitty cartoon. No wonder Cartoon Network is in "great" hands!

>Has over 200 questions, with a lot of them asking if your character is attractive.
>All questions are worth at minimun 1 point but some of them can go up to 10.
>The danger area is in the 22 points and the maximum is 50.

No wonder why these people are insufferable. I refuse to believe you can write a good character that has a score lower than 22 (a.k.a the safezone), you must write the ugliest and lamest son of a gun that has ever been born on this planet, because that's good writing.

If I wanted to read about ugly people, I would just go to KiwiFarms.

'Tism that has also been exacerbated by marketing. Autistic people in general tend to seek for extremely specific rules, and this includes how they approach all art. Marketing is aimed at finding a thing that sells, often creating a demand that they can satisfy. Combine these two together and you get the most shallow content creators that ever existed. Modern day algorithms make it all even worse, by further pushing the idea that "success" can be calculated and defined in simple rules, as opposed to it being either random things taking off or trends that are imposed by big corps (which are also full of either autists or extremely detached from reality individuals in general.)

Algorithms affect relatively healthy people, not just consumers, but content creators too, it's no secret how social media conditions us into behaviors that mimic ADHD, autism, and OCD/anxiety that usually come with actual neurodivergency. Except now they're either fully conditioned in neurotypical individuals, or actively enabled in neurodivergent people.

My guess is that's why the problem is so rampant and became mainstream in media, we live during the era of ultimate brainrot. Two-dimentional, soulless writing is just a symptom of a greater issue that currently plagues the whole world.

I recall many people against that litmus test back in the day arguing that widely beloved characters like Batman, Luke Skywalker, or Harry Potter would absolutely fail it by their very nature. Make of that what you will.

95% of those questions are expendable in that litmus test. You can detect a Mary Sue in 10 questions or less, e.g.:

• Does the character feel out of context?
• Does the character lack flaws?
• Is the character better than every other character at everything?
• Does the character desperately need backstory to justify the afore mentioned superiority?
• Do the other characters constantly talk at how much better and wonderful the character is?

1-4 yes answers. Ok, needs more work and practice though; keep editing, jackass.
5 yes answers, welcome to Tumblr you queer mongoloid retard

1. She is now reaching stalker levels of obsession Clownfish TV family for being more successful than her, despite her work in the LA animation industry. Does a video on a Disney outsourcing to Canada after she called clownfish TV liars for even suggesting Disney will ever backstab LA animation.

2. She is a salty cunt over borderline non-Union Indie animated series like Helluva Boss and Digital circus being more popular than shows made by the mainstream American animation industry.

3. Defending artists on Twitter and Bluesky being upset that Pewdiepie is becoming a good self-thought artist. While telling them to get over Pewdiepie at the same time.

4. Her argument that clownfish TV are liars is based around them being a married Gen-X couple who only worked in the American comic book industry, big tech and worked for Disney for many years in the 90s and 2000s. She is an unemployed millennial artist. That somehow makes her more qualified to talk about the animation industry.

Icing on the cake. You can tell by siamystery putting on more and more makeup on each thumbnail. She hitting the wall in real time and blames all her life problems on the Clownfish TV family.

The faggot here is you for sucking him off because he is drawing some bug eyed japanese cartoon characters as if this is something special.
Whatever your thoughts on troonime are, you can't deny the seethe he causes other artists isn't hilarious. If you quit art because some Swedish guy draws "better" than you, you might as well tie the noose if you are that much of a weakwilled faggot.

So bitching about Anime on the western animation industry thread. Congratulations you sound like the faggots on Twitter crying over Pewdiepie art.
Doesn't Pewds live in Japan with his wife and kid? Of fucking course he's making art based in the country it originated from. People want PewDiePie to make more content, be happy this dude retired. Any other time people would scream "THIS GUY HAS A FAMILY HE SHOULD BE CHOOSING HIS KIDS!"

Do foreign/outsourced/non-Union animators even give a fuck about A.I?
Alex Hirch did realize both foreigners and non-Union animators shitted on and demonized by the LA animation scene and Hollywood unions in general? Alex should use his rain instead of stalking Lauren Faust. This is the SAG/WGA getting pissy that the police and railroad unions didn’t support them all over again. Hollywood advocated for railroad workers to get fired over MUH global warming and Hollywood still producing pro-defunding the police propaganda.

Not animation specifically, but from observing artists I know and local gamedev: the only few people I have seen screeching about AI were basement dwellers who objectively suck at art even by lowest of standards. The rest didn't feel threatened or straight up started incorporating AI into their work, by making it brainstorm ideas. Some used it as a learning tool by feeding AI their work and seeing what it may fix. The only thing that I'm seeing actually changing dramatically in art scene is AI slops replacing stolen artwork on various office paraphernalia. Which was a non-issue to begin with.
