I mean someone who parrots extreme gender ideology bullshit, but when you seriously listen to them it feels like they're not entirely sold on it or convinced, more like they're just going along with it out of fear of ostracization.

Have you ever met someone who felt like they had the potential to be saved? Have you ever actually saved anyone?

(I don't mean in a religious sense, strictly speaking).

For those who didn't realize it yet, people don't usually "reason themselves into" left-wing ideas, but they get oppressed, coerced, manipulated, or forced into having them. Even if it's as simple as stigmatization if you abstain from following left-wing ideas.
To the extent that somehow people did reason themselves into left-wing ideas, then it's a matter of intelligence and intellectual honesty. With midwits, they're unsaveable. With really high IQ and intellectually honest people, you can use facts and logic to point out that the ideas are wrong.

But if you look at this forum many are 'post left' or economically more leftwing while being considered socially conservative by today's standards.

If you are talking about these people, it's common and they voted Trump into power.

The only people I talk about politics with are online. I guess it’s a regional thing but the culture of my state is very much conservative. I know a few people irl from school who occasionally post about lefty politics but I don’t like to engage with people I know, and I get the feeling their identities are tied up in “fuck you mom and dad” still at our age so there wouldn’t be any nuance even if I brought a discussion. Some people treat it like a football team and you get the sense that their entire sense of self is wed to the empty camaraderie of updoots and reposts and sticking it to Christians. Family and my husband is different (we all basically agree on everything though) but casual acquaintances, meh.
 
I have never seen a left-winger turn right, only ones that end up infighting against other leftists for not being extreme enough. However I have seen a lot of right-wingers suddenly start talking about how much they hate rich people devoted to the pursuit of profit and complain about the lack of government intervention to prevent large companies from abusing their market dominance in recent times.
 
No. The only reason one thinks that is the hubris of wanting them to change because you think they are otherwise a decent person "if it wasn't for liking troons".

I've found that a lot of these types will listen and entertain an opposing idea and may even express a neutral statement that makes you think they "see your side" but mostly they are doing what they think is "polite" and "not engaging with triggering rhetoric". They more or less are waiting for you to change your opinions and are "being tolerant" of the opposing view even though they disagree. You could spend two hours presenting all the science and they'd nod and say that's very thought provoking and then text a friend saying someone just went off on them for two hours because they hate trans people.

IMO it's like trying to convince someone to not believe in Jesus when they already believe in Jesus. It is a full blow belief on how the world should be, you can't change that as an outsider, you can only grow on the inside as the individual holding the belief through many different experiences that necessitate a change in that belief. So, in short, you can't tell someone what to believe.

Anyone who hates trannies has at least a little hope of not remaining a degenerate anti-American lunatic.

On the other hand, anyone even ambivalent about transgenderism is hopeless, and if someone on the right is like that then they're an untrustworthy RINO scumbag, because if you're okay with that shit then God knows what else you're capable of.

Honestly I sometimes know what you mean. It's kind of eye rolling when a topic about Gamecube controllers has a random post where someone spergs about "trannies" or when a topic about time travel has the word "dilation" and some retard sees that as a reason to go off.

That said, outside of those who overly obsess over trans people, Kiwis are usually more intelligent than Redditors. At least you can actually question things without immediately being accused of being a fooshist or a nootzi. Redditors usually aren't capable of any sort of complex or insightful thought, Kiwis usually are.

Lived in a blue state for most of my life. No, I have never met someone who was outright a leftist that would ever turn back.
The closest you will find to that are moderates that are left leaning. These people you can actually talk to, and are whiling to hear out the other side.
Full on leftists though think lesser of you and start treating you like shit the moment you say anything even mildly rightwing. They might listen to you if you rephrase an idea in a leftwing manner, but often completely forget anything they might have agreed with you on the moment the conversation ends. It is why you often see purity spiraling and older leftists thoughtlessly supporting ideas they do not understand. The moment they entertain an alternative idea their leftists colleagues abandon them.
 
In time some people shift their opinions from experiences. Some won't and will never listen. Don't think I've felt I was so in the right as to be able to save anyone. If its really that serious I tend to just let the examples of the bullshit speak for themselves and they often do.

Leftism is a wholly biological phenomenon, and thus the vast majority of leftists are terrible, mentally ill people that use the ideology, which was drummed up by equally terrible, mentally ill people, to justify their actions, as the likes of Marx intended it to be.
