Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

That's why Early Access is always such a sham. A dev will release, get an infusion of cash (so they're no longer time bound by being able to feed themselves) and then get a ton of feedback they have no idea how to parse effectively. So they just expand scope and change direction or endlessly refactor because "reasons" when in reality they'd make more sales by just quickly executing on their vision and only pivoting if they get overwhelming feedback that they fucked up. Project Zomboid is the perfect example of this.
This is the case more often than not, but there are a few exceptions like Baldur's Gate 3 - which was in early access for a while. It really depends on the team and their experience.

Did this happen to Boomers? Did they keep dredging up dead IPs from their teen years solely for the purpose of taking a massive shit on them?
Yes, but not really.

When you look at IPs boomers love, they're either evergreen like micky mouse, zorro, the lone ranger, or westerns in general, or they're not worth bringing back at all. No one is desperate for Bagpuss or Bill and Ben The Flowerpot Men to get a 2020 reboot.

I think the point about westerns is key to this. Boomer nostalgia is not tied to IPs but genres. There are exceptions. Inspector Morse got a few modern spin offs as Louis and Endeavor. As mentioned in the long running TV shows thread, Coronation Street, The Archers, and Heartbeat are still going. But what are they going to do? Reboot Bonanza? Make John Wayne funko pops? They remade 3:10 to Yuma a while back.

But boomers are harder to monetize because "cowboy" is too broad of a term to copyright and market. They can make a Marvel(tm) Captain America(tm) Agent of Shield(tm) Heli-carrier(tm) collectable Todd McFarlane(tm) statue.

There were a few Boomer nostalgia properties that got updated in the 80s and 90s, like the Flintstones, Star Trek, the Beverly Hillbillies, and the Addams Family. But largely, these remakes were trying to be entertaining rather than shitting all over them for the sole purpose of humiliating the people who remembered them fondly. I feel like this started with Millennial childhood entertainment, although you could argue it really kicked off with Star Wars, which is more of a Gen X thing

Well that's kind of a different topic. Back in the 80s and 90s, nostalgia baiting was done to make money. Making something that would appeal to boomers and bring in a new audience was the goal. It isn't until 2008 or there abouts that "the message" becomes the primary focus and 2014-2016 where it went into overdrive. There were certainly attempts at making politically correct reboots in the 90s and 2000s. See Ghost Busters Extreme and TMNT. But most boomer stuff was out of favour by then.

Closest I can really think of would be Scooby Do (which might be too late for boomers) and the race swapped Equalizer, but that was actually entertaining.

Kinda but budgets back then werent so overinflated that it wasnt as big of a deal when The Live Action Flintstones movie came out, and made just enough to get a sequel.

New Turok was announced. Looks like DEI slop to me. No gameplay shown and ugly "diverse" characters (so I guess they're blackwashing a non-white character now?).

I think the one on the right is a woman. Not sure WTF the one on the left is. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some enby genderblop nonsense.

It's a third person co-op. I'm assuming it's an online only deal but I don't see a ton of information. No release date.

I think it's pretty clear by now that the SBMM/EOMM is nothing more than a boogieman that is used as a scapegoat to cover the real problems with Call of Duty. If it was really that big of a deal than Xdefiant wouldn't be shutting down. The real issue is that everybody is getting older and growing out of CoD.

There are no good Assassin's Creed games.
I have nearly no experience with the series, but I did play the first two heavily for their times. AC1 feels like a beta that shipped. AC2 was awesome. I bought whatever the Ezio sequel was and played 30 mins and realized, I don't need to play this series anymore.

People that complain about SBMM don't understand that it has been around even back in Halo 2, the issue is the application of it. They designed SBMM in Halo 2 to allow a wider range of uneven matches because they felt those super tightly matched games are the most stressful. Halo 2's design meant you'd have those even matches but you'd also get an even blend of matches where your team was suppose to stomp and games where your team was suppose to be stomped.

If you're the higher rated team, you get to have fun letting lose and ripping through the enemy and don't have to stress as much to win. If you're on the lower rated team, you can relax knowing this is the match you're suppose to lose and you don't lose much rating because of it, so it's no big deal to stress about losing this match. Additionally the gaps weren't that massive, so if the higher rated team got cocky, the lower rated team can band together and squeak out a win against the odds. It is incredibly satisfying to have that rare event in a blue moon where everyone on your team drops their ego because you're all getting stomped and start coordinating as a unit to get a win. All the modern games using SBMM have it all too tightly set up because the devs are more fixated on "perfectly matched! competitive!" instead of focusing on a fun experience.

That's more than me. I only played two very briefly, Liberation and China, a 2D spinoff. I'm sometimes interested in Black Flag because pirates are kinda neat, but it's really not that cool.

Frank West's personality in 4 is entirely in character after all the shit he went through, and even in-universe it's a deeply inappropriate way of handling his unresolved issues.

TJ Rolo is a great guy, but he's a middling actor. I never understood the devotion he had.

People who make arguments like this dont understand that not everybody played your shitty console shooters. My experience was going on counter strike, hl2dm, doom 3 or chaos theory spies vs mercs and picking a game from a server list perfectly catered to my desired experience or hosting my own games. Matchmaking sucks, being forced onto a central server sucks. I want to have easy access to tons of modded game modes amd maps again.

I've hit that point. Been a couple of years where i couldnt care about anything coming out and it's time to cut it up. Backlog is enough to last a lifetime and if anything worthwhile does pop up i'm sure i'll hear about it in some way.

Last time i got excited for a game was Dragon's Dogma 2. Haven't played it yet, but that's gonna be my "newest" game in the library for a long time. Maaaaaybe Metaphor, as i keep hearing it's the best RPG of all time or something... Just wish the story wasn't so predictable! Predicted every single beat in the demo, and i'm sure once i get to the full game there'll be no surprises.

Gonna wait for the inevitable "Royal" version though, Atlus ain't gonna miss a chance to Persona 5 this one.
Welcome to adulthood! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go play a mediocre SNES game because I enjoy it ten times more than any AAA released in the past ten years.

The "pornification" of video games isn't happening. And if it is, it's a good thing.

It isn't happening because an attractive woman in a skimpy outfit is not pornography. Even if you think it is, there are two AAA games with sexy female characters "pornography". Stellar Blade and First Descendant. That's hardly the entire games industry. You can play literally anything else.

Even if we say every game now stars a plastic sex object shaking her arse at the camera, I'll take that over this.
