One thing I'm still fuzzy on---for all intents & purposes, Greta's still legally married to his second wife, the one with the special needs child, right? & she's the one to whom Greta owes back child support.
As for Greta not wanting to legally divorce his second wife, I think that's because then he really would be legally obligated to pay child support, & his "wages" would definitely be garnished. That, & divorce proceedings/hiring a lawyer can get pretty expensive.
