Wisdom tooth extraction is faster and easier when they've erupted. Sometimes they need to be removed beforehand, which involves cutting into the gums, dividing the tooth into parts and extracting those. Sometimes they have to cut into the jaw.

Why was she even admitted, again? This feels like complete overkill. Anytime I had to drive my dad to a colonoscopy, he simply did the two days of prep at home with zero fuss, got into the procedure, and a few hours after waking up from sedation he was free to leave. Why does she need so many gown changes and ass inspections? Is it an actual protocol for some cases or is she purposefully making the nurses’ life hell by constantly shitting herself and complaining of butthole pain

This is a side note, but why are burgers sedated for procedures like colonoscopies and wisdom tooth extractions? Just seems like a strange risk-benefit calculation. Sure, here in my little eurofagland you might get a shot of diazepam if you’re a scaredy cat, but anesthesia is out of the question.

Yes. usually wisdom teeth extraction only requires local anesthesia here too, unless the teeth are too buried or there are other issues to be addressed.

Valium sedation is still sedation, you felt fully awake because it was a mild sedation, but there is a significant level of relaxation that without it the doctors job would be significantly more difficult during the procedure.

Sedation does not stop you from reacting to pain or other stimulus even if unconsciously. It's not equivalent to full body anesthesia (but vicky is certainly making it seem like she's being put in a coma or something)

I don't know this for certain, but I suspect the way our various healthcare systems operate might account for the difference in sedation; something like valium is cheap as shit and there is a huge markup in the US so docs/hospitals/dentists are more likely to use it without special request, bc money? That's my guess.

That said, I'll chime in that as an Ameri-fag, I had two erupted wisdom teeth out using only novacaine, because I was a very poor student at the time and I didn't have anyone to cover the extra $500+ something for light sedation. So I cranked up the loud music in my earbuds and we cracked em out of my skull. The fact that no one was like "no no no, you neeeeeeed to be sedated for safety purposes!" Or whatever tells me it's about money. Don't have money or don't have insurance to cover things to make you comfy? Then you don't get them in the US. But good insurance that the doctors can charge out the ass? Then you'll get options.

Mr. Judean People's Front recently had a Procedure on his very sensitive area (vasectomy) and insurance did not cover ANYTHING outside of the local anesthesia. We paid $250 out of pocket for Versed. America is crap.

$500+ just for sedatives?! That’s insane. For comparison, I paid about $250–$270 for two wisdom teeth extractions, X-rays, local anesthesia, and the head surgeon at my clinic. No wonder some of my distant relatives decided to have their dental work done in my country, even if it meant flying here 3 separate times

Re: scopes - in the UK it's usually 2mg midazolam that's standard for an endoscopy/colonoscopy. Sometimes 25-50mcg fentanyl is also given depending on the patient. Your average little old lady wouldn't get it for example, but a big burly 6'4" 260lb rugby player would. Redheads also metabolise certain drugs faster than your average person so they would generally get a touch of fentanyl too.

It's very interesting how varied the practices in different countries are.

I'm guessing she is 'crying in pain' every time she poops to try and score some good drugs. They've told her that opioids are not indicated for abdominal cramping etc associated with colonoscopy prep so she's pretending that it's her actual butthole that is suffering.
