Late & gay re: the issue of people using casual singular "they"... yes it's common among gendershits, but there are also a lot of people who do it without any socjus overtones. Usually it's just due to socializing online. Seeing "skittlesfan1386" and a generic avatar doesn't give immediate gender cues: most online people are never anything more than text on a screen. So people who socialize online will often refer to others with singular "they" just out of laziness instead of constantly digging for pronouns. That can end up carrying over to real life or people they know the sex of just due to habit. If you get triggered over people who use "they" you're probably catching a lot of false positives who are just Internet nerds at worst.
