Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

The Time a Certain PBS Station (KTEH) Aired Anime

I was just reminded that this occurred. I'd heard about this, years ago.

KTEH was notable for airing certain anime series that never appeared on other stations such as Ranma ½, Urusei Yatsura, Please Save My Earth, Serial Experiments Lain, and All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku. The block was the first television station in the U.S. to air Neon Genesis Evangelion (subtitled) and Tenchi Muyo (uncensored and before it was acquired by Toonami). Many of these series were the result of pledge drives supported by the local anime community.

not exactly mango, but for @ShitLurker (and anyone else interested): humble currently has a somewhat good package of eurocomics as a single bundle. among them the original incal albums, metabaron stuff and even some milo manara works, for a price that can't really be beaten.

Well fuck me, that's a huge haul! also shows me how bloody ignorant I'm about euro comics, didn't know there was that much Metabaron's stuff... Will look into dropping some sheckles in there, though about Hellboy, I've only read a few stories, does it manage to stick the landing and is it worth reading as a whole?

Also, courtesy of Missisipi Motorboater, http://www.bookgn.com/translations/ this site seems to have a lot of eurocomics hosted. Haven't actually looked deep into it, but since we are in the topic, here we go.

Oh, also I can prove Drama Queen isn't about those stinky minorities like Twitter claims.

There's a nigger walking by, and no one cares. Shocker.
Now I'm a little more worried it's actually gonna be woke after all. How often did manga portray Japan casually having niggers before? Wasn't very common not long ago...

Has character age in anime always been as contentious as it is right now and I just managed to miss it, or is this a recent change as of a few years ago?

I mean I know Loli's always been a point of contention because they look like children, but I mean specifically more normal characters.

It's mostly tourists & normies doing the shit they did before becoming tourists & shitting on you for liking something, except now they're also pretending to like it because the hobby has become mainstream.

Combine that with fictional characters which are basically lines on paper making people cope, seethe, & even dilate, will never not be funny.

Fair enough. I never thought I'd miss the early 2000's when it came to anime and video games and getting told I'd never get a girlfriend lol.

As you said, normies and tourists in both hobbies, especially post covid have really shit the place up.

I always wondered if the dude knew what's going on the other side of the screen as he was giving the speech.

It's an easy gotcha against people's preferences where you can't be criticized back because then they are seen as pro pedos. The usual kind of modern pointless internet arguments to build engagement without getting hit back. The reason those characters are liked is because of their personality/plot, if people wanted just barely legals there are plenty of those in media.

It's picked up in recent years, but character age in anime has always been in question if you knew where to look. Hell, my mother has never really liked anime because the girls tended to look young; Sailor Moon in particular weirded her out because they had the faces of eight-year-olds despite adult-looking bodies (her words when I was a teenager) and that Serena was developing relations with a college student while underage--in fairness, I don't think the dub at the start was real clear about Damien in that regard.

My favourite is the Sakura Wars one:
Most of the shows they aired were licensed from ADV Films in subs (yes, they preferred subs to dubs). I think they also aired Robotech and Bubblegum Crisis. I wish you could still see cool anime on cable instead of endless Naruto/Sailor Moon/DBZ reruns as well as the obligatory Pokemon/Beyblade. Yet another reason Crunchyroll and Netflix are total cancer. Sci-fi channels should be airing all the licensed Sentai anime like LOGH, Gatchaman, and Votoms, and I'm sure Harmony Gold would license out Robotech to anyone willing.
To think this is posted right after we had someone say all anime discussion and fans should be banned for supporting pedophilia! Why do weebs have to be such colossal pedo faggots, and why are they emboldened to be proud of it?

Unrelated to any recent news, I thought I’d share this one-shot. A femcel becoming a failed comedian to impress her straight crush.

Out of curiosity, are there any manga with femcel characters? I already know about CSM.

Watamote is the popular one but its not really about that anymore. She has friends now. Hoshi no Ponko is kind of like that but its 3 chapters long, its a fuckin rollercoaster ride though.

Drama Queen's chapters just fly by, that's how you know it's good. I was so disappointed reaching the end of the latest one lol. I love reading the angry SJW comments on each chapter too, priceless. There's a lot of surprisingly based comments too though.
I'm not a huge fan now, it seems to be more wacky dark comedy relying too much on the "wow she's EATING BODIES?" gimmick than delivering some more substantial stuff. I'm more interested in seeing the way aliens brainwashed society and how the MCs have to murder and get away with murder, but instead it's just offscreened and you get told about satellites that only the super special alien killing organization can use to track down our MCs (but the police wont, because otherwise the story is over, even if it makes no sense)

It's... alright, but I don't expect it to be great. At least the art holds up.
