This plus the long confirmed blue check mark scam, where Twitter basically sold famous people and pseudo celebrities blue check mark badges, that had an extra power: it let the celebrities make sure they never had to interact with the rabble and only see fellow celebrities with blue check mark replies and posts.

I think he knows it’s a stitch-up. That’s why he’s preemptively making it known that he sent them the threats being made against him - so when they post the “Jesse Singal is an evil Nazi who is literally murdering trans women” story, he can say that they’re deliberately ignoring the actions of the other side.

Jesse having extremely centrist-liberal values when it comes to trans rights actually makes the insane backlash from the Trans Volunteer Twitter Liberation Army that much funnier to watch. Basically he writes thinkpieces that are mildly to somewhat critical of youth transition, and trannies are so allergic to criticism of any kind, that they see Jesse posing questions like "is there any evidence to support youth transition? I have looked at the literature to date and it's all pretty shaky, small sample sizes, and very not definitive, these clinics seem not to enforce their own inclusion criteria" and troons immediately nuke out to 11 and start posting about muh genocide (which is kind of funny when you consider Singal's a Jew, and like all Jews somewhat hypersensitive to people who invoke "muh Holocaust".)

Troons hate a lot of things, but they really get riled by people who they feel should be on their side. Any woman or liberal who criticises them should be murdered as far as they’re concerned. And detransitioners are evil whether they say anything critical or not.

The woman that wrote it Katherine Huggins, is an actual freelance journalist, not some activist intern. I suspect she would have been more than happy to do a hit piece but realised she'd look ridiculous once the details came out. Which they will, because Jesse for all his 'aw shucks' routine is someone that has significant reach.

Barpods old producer Trace Woodgrains did a really good article on how bad right wing media is at actual investigative journalism. He used it to highlight how conservative media completely missed what was happening with DEI hiring for Air traffic controllers (in the end the Biden administration fixed it on the quite). Conservative media does rent a gobs and op ed's but they're rarely able to actually investigate a story. Which is why the shitshow at Blusky, where actual tenured professors, journalists and government officials are participating in discussions where death threats are casually thrown around, isn't getting any attention.

People like Andy Ngo and James O'Keefe aren't really doing deep dive reporting, more live reporting and stings.

A proper investigation of Bluesky would be covering the ownership, structure moderation policies and just where the influx of users is coming from, together with how they're looking for future funding.

If they were smart, Bluesky would have a digital Night of the Long Knives - get together a list of a couple of hundred accounts that made the most egregious threats over the last while, and ban them all in one go. Lock the accounts and keep the handles so they can't be reused. Announce that they have passed all direct threats to law enforcement. Have another run through if there's too much complaining. The users would come back, of course, but they would see some consequences for their behavior. It's the only way they might learn something.
