One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

Theory on Loki's Devil Fruit I thought of in the shower. What if there actually is a Gum-Gum Fruit out there the World Government simply isn't aware of, and that's what Loki ate? The Giants aren't aware of the Nika Fruit, or just thinks the Gum-Gum Fruit they have is the Nika Fruit. It'd explain why Loki says he's the Sun God, he just assumes because he's elastic, it means he's Nika now. My idea of how it'd work power-wise is that Loki could only do the things Luffy could in his base form. It'd make for an interesting twist.
I thought it was established that there can only be one devil fruit for only one type of power.

I think that Loki has the illusion based powers of Utgarda-Loki. Fits the theme really well and he can fake the wackiness of Nika's power.
If it was just illusions, it'd be a pretty underwhelming super special Devil Fruit worth killing over.

We already have several instances of Devil Fruits having basically the same power. Like Miss Valentine and Machvise. The Nika Fruit could basically be seen as the "upgrade" version of the real Gum-Gum Fruit. Again, my idea is this "real" Gum-Gum Fruit would essentially just be a Gear-free Luffy in terms of what it can do.

Or that the Gum Gum fruit Awakened is close enough to Nika's power set that you can't really tell the difference..so that Luffy can plausibly deny that he has the Nika fruit for the rest of the series.

Imagine trying to get him to believe that he ate the Nikka fruit after Loki claims to have eaten it.

See, I believe they were aware of such a Fruit and that was why they could never find the Nika Fruit. Because it never awakened they could never tell which one was Nika. That way when Shanks said to Luffy it was the Gum Gum he wasn’t lying. He straight up didn’t know. He took a bet and it paid off

You really need to look up that myth. Utgarda-Loki was an Aizen-level illusionist and managed to repel Thor to the point he never went after him again. And Thor keeps grudges but he truly stood no chance even when he (being the strongest god) was fighting with Mjolnir (the strongest weapon).

Blackbeard has one crew member who has illusions and it's a zoan fruit.

It's that female pirate, Catarina-Liz Fong Devon Jones or something
So if Loki has an illusion-based fruit, it'd have to be a Paramecia like Mirage-Mirage or something like that.

Have we seen any illusion-based fruits yet?
The Mirror Mirror fruit can change one's appearance into that of another and the non-canon Bijo Bijo fruit can create holograms. Apart from those, Devon's fruit MIGHT be illusion based if not outright transformation based.

Would that explain why Shanks went out of his way to steal it? When the Marines saw Shanks steal the fruit, they seemed shocked to find that Shanks was even coming for it, since all they saw was turning the person who ate said fruit into a rubber man.

So just a base form Luffy? Is the payoff going to be that somebody who claims to be the Sun God would have this but would be exposed for not being able to do what Gear 5 can do?

Most I can see is Luffy and Loki going back and forth over their powers, and Luffy exposing Loki by doing something Loki can't.

As for "try to believe", any significance explained will most likely go straight over Luffy's thick head.Good luck getting him to care or to see the big picture.

Basically, yeah. All the Giants would know is that Nika is all elastic-y, so my theory is Loki is made of rubber and just thinks that's all it takes. Then Gear 5th Luffy shows him up and proves his abilities aren't worth shit compared to the real thing. Not that Luffy would care about that, but Loki sure as shit would. There's gotta be some reason he claims to be the Sun God. The illusion stuff fits, but I don't think Oda needs to make these Norse mythology parallels so 1:1.

Oda never does 1:1 parallels. Illusion powers could work and still not be an exact match with the myth. Utgarda-Loki was a king but he was a separate character than the imprisoned Loki who was companion to Thor and Odin (whose power was shapeshifting and he was probably wind themed due to his whimsical nature and ability to change on a dime like the wind). The parallels would still not be 1:1.

To me yes, he knows its called the Gum Gum and has no way of knowing if the Fruit the WG picked up was correct. So he goes after them and gets lucky.

Oh Luffy will care. Like with Kaido it will boil down to ‘i get it but you hurt the people that gave me food so i am punching you to death even if I end up liking you in the process.’

Luffy is very good at taking the big picture distiling it down to a result he can comprehend and punching you for it. And then confirming with the people that need help that yes he is allowed to punch you. Wano shows us this,

Well if you actually show enough backbone to deserve that help.
Luffy was right, Momo could not just expect others to do things for him all the time. He was the leader of the revolution whether he liked it or not, he might not have been much of a fighter to be expected to fight too but he is still expected to give the order to revolt and the whole operation would be called off should he ask for it. He should have a backbone for this to succeed.

Oh yeah, but it wasn't just with Momo.

He did that to Vivi too and told Usopp outright "Well if you didn't fight the Black Cat Pirates we would have let the village burn"

Edit : Hell even with Nami he went to sleep until she got her head out of her ass.
