Forgot to mention that the TMT hates Susan's Place, primarily because SP does not support non-disclosure and doesn't believe partners are obligated to stay with spouses who troon out.

But god damn. If there is a more deserving place of a purge and a battle against snowflake-ism PC and sensitivity than SA's boards, then someone show me.

The dipshit in chief thinks that "troon" is about SA for some reason. I guess he can't imagine it otherwise.
(I think) it's a portmanteau of "tranny" and "toon" or "cartoon". A person who's a tranny and also a complete joke. I say "I think" because I wasn't big on Rat King lolcows but now I see it all over the place, well before anyone here cared about SA.

Troon is transgender-goon. It started on SA (20??) and then became common SS/SASS parlance to refer to any tranny that's sufficiently goony (2013+). The first posters to use it here were SS transplants iirc.

People who have no connection to SA use it constantly and I've never seen it used in the context of SomethingAwful until this drama happened. I'm more likely to believe it a coincidence.

I was going to write up some shit about LMO but someone beat me to it. I browse the troon thread occasionally because it's a rich drama mine filled with constant infighting.
LMO is one of those 'baby gays' my lgb friends refer to that talk about 'transmisogyny' and 'micro-aggressions' all the damn time. It's their entire identity, to be upset at perceived slights even if not directed at them. My friends ridicule these morons because what they're experiencing today is nothing like the past and they just come off whiny and insufferable. They've not had to go through any real struggle in the 1-2 years they figured out they're transtrenders.

Nope. That history is correct. It started out because TMT posters are special snowflakes who wanted a term for referring to themselves. Apparently it never occurred to them at time that normal people who are not goons would suspect it was an insult derived from putting trans and cartoon together.
It's spread way beyond SA since then because relatively normal goons post in other places as well. Most other places which have now adopted it have no idea of its history.
I'll see if I can find the original discussion. It's in one of the very old TMTs so it's a bitch to find.
Ironically, before that it was a term used to refer to actual women who looked like drag queens.

We started using it for a completely different reason from SA. At some point we had a wordfilter going on for "trans," and "troons" quickly became the go-to replacement. One of the biggest contributors to this was Mark Boyd, who produced T-Runner, a game that to this day stands as one of the worst things I have ever played for this website. A common nickname for it was "Trooner," making fun of the game's title and content.

Yeah. So curiosity got the better of me upon seeing one of the world's least passing trannies with the handle, "The_Mageling". He's a Senior Designer at Ubisoft Red. He speedruns. He has 500 pics on twitter that is the most depressing thing I've seen this month so far. Starts out with him socializing with humans. Attending hockey games and conferences. Then the cats show up. At least four of them. Tons of vidya screenshots becauseYep it's totally true. Just look on OKcupid. I made an account just to laugh at troons there.

A bitter, virulent poster on par with Kaleidoscopic Gaze/Lock Stock and Cheryl, but with less 'progress' in nebulous troon community terms. This one's constantly down-talking others about how impoverished he is, lives in North Carolina (iirc) and made a big stink about the bathroom bill because he's a fucking troon, of course he did. He's one of those Die Cis Scum types who feels that transwomen are actually superior to cis women and is very aggressive about it, much like Sylvie Wolf and her 'beardfemme' aesthetic. He's a low income poor you guys, in case you didn't read that the first six thousand times.
Generally he'll be in agreement with anyone who says cis people are the devil because he's got some skeletons that he doesn't bring up, for good reasons.

Aleph Null is pretty much a classic example. Pretty sure Behold! A Elk! was nuts too. There was another that came to SS, buttsoupbarnes, I think. His mom died, left him a massive amount of money and he blew every last dime flying around the world for ridiculous surgeries and such. Because becoming a woman would fix his confidence or some shit. Rather than lose 50lbs and become more social of course. He seemed okay for a bit, but got run off when he started to promote forcing young children onto hormones/blockers.
I always thought troon was a self made word that meant trans goon but I may be wrong. Always figured it just spread from there because the reputation SA troons have of being hateful, unpleasant, loud, preachy, was so well known it spread across the whole internet like a loud shrieking cancer.
