He also really thought at the end of his contract that he was some sort of big star that was going to courted by rumble and listened to. The impression I get is that they never even contracted him about a renewal. His failure was so spectacular that he was just an embarrassment to be forgotten. And when the people he could reach didn't listen to his ideas, escalating all the way to the board of directors probably made sense to Nick.
