UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot outside Hilton hotel in Midtown in targeted attack: cops - Just Part and Parcel of visiting a Big City

If you really expect the President to come out and praise the assassination of a CEO and say the murderer is a pretty cool guy with skibiddi rizz you're a delusional redditor.
Obviously nobody is expecting Trump to be a Luigi wife, but he could have played into the populist angle - "it's a dark days for our country, it's proof how badly the Dems are running our healthcare, we'll ensure justice for everyone involved", etc cetera. It was a bit of a laugh to see someone like Trump judge Luigi's moral character and integrity. Brian Thompson died like the dog he was, and in fact he died much faster than the thousands he condemned slowly wasting away from cancer because their treatment claims were denied.
As I've mentioned earlier, someone doesn't have to BELIEVE in a cause to further it, especially accidentally. He doesn't need to hate the machine or want to destroy it to cause lasting damage. If he thinks he's fixing it and ends up wrecking it (or weakening it severely enough that someone more competent can come along and finish the job), that's still a desirable outcome. If the machine wrecks itself trying to get at him because it has whipped itself into a frenzy and believe he will harm it, that's still a desirable outcome. If he crashes this whole thing with no survivors, that's still preferable to its current trajectory.
Ok, but what machine is Trump destroying? For all his talk of draining the swamp, Trump's cabinet are either Deep State allies and operatives, career politicians or billionaires; so are his major donors like (((Miriam Adelson))). The machine, as far as I can tell, is operating with full force and the massive issues in American society like healthcare, cost of living, housing, etc. are not being dealt with. Trump's ever-changing rhetoric is irrelevant, what is he actually doing?

Come to think about it, Edward Snowden is probably the most anti-Establishment American in the modern age, and Trump refused to pardon him in his first term.

I don't know if the CEO shooter was "justified" in a legal sense, but one look at UHC's business practices will make any Tom, Dick or Jane say "he had it comin'".
The jury selection is going to be banger. The NYC DA will try to get people whose livelihoods depend on skeevy CEOs and the defense will try to get people fucked over by them (eg, the working class).

I might just decide to call in a favor in the DA's office to visit 11 Centre Street for that.

"Just a cold-blooded, horrible killing," President-elect Donald Trump said at a news conference Monday.
Trump is a faggot who knows he's in the same club as that faggot who got shot.
To be completely fair, what happened on December 4th is first degree murder.
It's definitely first degree murder. I still wouldn't be feeling all that happy if I were the prosecutor.

HOMICIDE
n.
The slaying of one human being by another. There are four kinds of homicide: felonious, excusable, justifiable, and praiseworthy, but it makes no great difference to the person slain whether he fell by one kind or another — the classification is for advantage of the lawyers.
Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary.
I don't really understand the "two counts of second degree murder" though. If I'm not mistaken, second degree murder is intentional killing caused by a sudden lapse in judgment, like murdering a man you found in bed with your wife. If he had a spiral notebook with details of premeditating the assassination and a written confession/"manifesto" as the authorities claim, then second degree murder shouldn't apply at all.
It's standard practice for prosecutors to charge what are called "lesser included offenses," (LIO) which are offenses that share some, but not all of the elements of the larger offense (and do not have elements not in the primary charge), such that even if you somehow lose on your primary charge, you can still convict of a lesser offense. It is also common for the defense, sometimes in a case they expect to lose, to request jury instructions making it possible for the jury to find a lesser included offense when the prosecution has not chosen to do so.

Actually charging these lesser included offenses also makes it clerically easier to do the paperwork on the plea agreement if that happens.

There are strategic aspects to this. Sometimes the prosecution will decline to charge the LIOs to be able to offer the defendant "you either take this plea or I guarantee I'm going for the death penalty." Sometimes the defense will think the jury won't give a death penalty or life without parole and choose not to ask for LIO instructions on the hopes of a total acquittal.

Usually, though, it's in the interests of both the defendant and the prosecution that the LIOs are available. So they'll usually get charged, and often get requested by the defense as jury instructions.

In this case, I do not fault the prosecutor for actually pleading the LIOs at the outset.
I hate journos so much.
Remember, when you see a journo spewing corpobabble at you, that is, lies that benefit the corporation that owns that puppet, you are not watching news. You are watching the Mouth of Sauron but with better makeup.

Why are they risking potentially fucking up their case with questionable terrorism charges when a first degree murder charge would already be slam dunk conviction with life in prison?
From what has been reported here, in order to charge someone with first degree murder in NY there must be an additional aggravating factor and terrorism is the only one they can try to make fit.

Does anyone actually believe that the jury will be fairly picked? Luigi will be lucky if even 9 jury members don't end up being healthcare shareholders or have a direct family member who they know is a healthcare shareholder. If you fuck with rich people you're getting a kangaroo court.
the meme i saw was 12 healthcare ceos on the jury.

That would be funny, because then you'd be at the civil courthouse.

You'll want to call in your favor to 100.
The NYC DA administrative offices are at 11 Centre, 60 Centre is where criminal trials take place but grand jury or jury selection can be held in any of the Foley Square courts the City of New York makes available if the trial judge deems it necessary for a high profile case.

NBC News and NY Post are both reporting possible federal charges against Luigi.

Federal prosecutors are looking into whether to charge Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of United Healthcare’s CEO, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News on Wednesday.
If federal charges are filed, the New York state murder case against Mangione would have priority, the sources said.

Mangione, 26, was indicted Tuesday on first-degree murder and other charges in the targeted killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who authorities said was shot from behind as he walked on a Manhattan sidewalk on Dec. 4.

New York police said Mangione targeted Thompson, possibly because of the size of the private health insurance company he led. United Healthcare is the largest private health insurer in the United States.

Mangione was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, in addition to counts of second-degree murder and other counts.

In New York, a first-degree murder charge needs a special circumstance beyond intent, like the killing of a witness, being a murder for hire, the killing of a police officer or the killing of someone in furtherance of terrorism.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said Tuesday that the ambush killing of Thompson was "intended to cause shock and attention and intimidation."

Mangione, wearing a hooded a jacket and a mask, waited for nearly an hour near a hotel for Thompson to arrive and then shot him from behind with a 9 mm handgun equipped with a suppressor at around 6:45 a.m., Bragg said.

Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 9 after he was recognized from security photos New York police and the FBI distributed.

He is being held in Pennsylvania and has contested extradition to New York. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, the federal prosecutor's office in Manhattan, declined to comment.

Representatives of the FBI and the New York Police Department also declined to comment.

If he is convicted of either first-degree murder or second-degree murder as an act of terrorism, Mangione could face up to life in prison without parole, Bragg said. If he is convicted of a normal charge of second-degree murder, the maximum sentence is 25 years to life, Bragg said.

Accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione is expected to face federal charges in the coming days — on top of the first-degree New York state murder charge he was hit with Tuesday, according to law enforcement sources.

Sources told The Post federal prosecutors have secured an indictment from a grand jury against the 26-year-old, who allegedly gunned down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a midtown Manhattan street on Dec. 4.

Part of the reason the feds have pursued the case is because it could allow them to ask for the death penalty in the high-profile slaying, sources noted.

New York got rid of the death penalty in 2004, but federal authorities can still push to ask juries to impose capital punishment in certain murder cases.

It’s unclear what federal charges Mangione will face, or when the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York will unseal the indictment.

He has denied carrying out the brazen shooting.

Mangione was captured days after the slaying in Pennsylvania following what Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg called a “well-planned targeted murder.”

While the Ivy Leaguer is currently in custody in the Keystone State, he is expected to waive extradition and be hauled back to the Big Apple on Thursday.

The Manhattan US Attorney’s Office declined comment.

A spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said the “state case will proceed in parallel with any federal case” in a statement to The Post.

The Post has sought comment from Mangione’s lawyer, Karen Friedman-Agnifilo.

You mean the Manhattan District Attorney/ New York County District Attorney? Sure, what do you need to know other than the correct title?

American law is so silly-billy it's unbelievable.
The fact that you can get charged twice for the same crime is one of the most obviously unconstitutional situations ever and the supreme court is like "yeah whatever dood".

Oh no, the poor health insurance CEOs are super scawed, bwos.
Again, I would understand the terrorism charge if health insurance actually did anything for this country instead of being a money sink.

Sidenote, do you think all the reports of "drones" over New Jersey is an attempt to dilute the news (and our attention) amid reclarified hatred for our reptilian overlords?

My theory is the reptilians are trying to get drones banned because they are loosing their minds with fear that one of those lights is going to drop a grenade on their head

I'm gonna laugh my ass off at Jury selection when they try to find people who don't hate the healthcare industry, of his peers, and they still find him not guilty.
All they'd have to do is find 70+ year old geriatrics who barely know what's going on but reckons that breaking the law deserves a punishment no matter what.
Or a dozen Groypers.
